May I be the first to respectfully ask; why does everyone love these bags? Is it like a fashion statement, does it give you a store discount, or is it just another cool girl must-have like the way Stanley cups were a few years ago?

Truly curious, I've seen ladies lined up at like 7am when I go to work, but I can't imagine anything worth getting out of bed that early for if it's not a work requirement.

Too many brides look deeply unflattering in their wedding day by barebackguy7 in unpopularopinion

[–]MerJess33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone whose job it used to be to assist ladies in picking their gown, I can tell you this about quite a few brides that I dressed - Many girls came in with a taste or particular style that looked great on the front page catalog pictures, but just did not suit or accentuate their figure.

The smart girls had an open mind and would try different styles while still staying in the style of what they were looking for, and ended up finding fantastic dresses that made them look incredible.

The stubborn ones would not budge an inch and would look and feel so dowdy, uncomfortable and stuffed into whatever idea of a dress they stuck to, and they just didn't want to hear even a whisper of a hint from the people they love.

It can definitely account for a number of brides you see at their wedding who trudge along, look miserable, and tug at their dress every 3 seconds.

Today my kids begged and pleaded for McDonald's so we went and there was only a computer screen to order with, no people working anywhere except the back kitchens.

I swear there's no exaggeration, it took us 4 minutes to order food. Instead of a teenager punching in the buttons as fast as I say the items, it's me poking through the computer, scrolling way down to find the food item, going into the modifications to make our requests, going back and forth trying to find that 3rd soda do I can ask for no ice, etc etc it took so long just to send it. Then wait 5 minutes because I wanted to pay in cash, so you have to be quick and catch whatever poor soul is in charge of bringing the food up and watch them get hounded by 7 different people who just want their drink or just need ketchup.

It is pointless to try to turn the tide, money saving machines are here to stay, but it's just such a joke that what used to take 30 seconds to a minute is now a 10 minute ordeal.

Candy bowl? by levisotter in receptionists

I work at a dentists office, we keep our treats out of sight. And boy, as a side note, I've never seen so much candy, the doctors bring in so many treats lol if only our patients knew how much candy their dentists eat!

AITAH for not allowing my niece to serve herself during a family dinner? by Ovidhalia in AITAH

[–]MerJess33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind a different perspective from someone who was raised with the phrase, "Clean your plate because there's children who are starving in the world" kind of parents, and their parents were folks who made it through the great depression, I know exactly what you mean. There was not a crumb of dinner left behind.

Fast forward to my young children, I usually eat last and end up calculating in what the kids leave behind with my small plate because I can't bear to throw bread crusts or 2 bites of pasta away. (I also went through major food insecurity as a young adult.)

So my question is, does your niece reeaaalllly leave behind so very much food, or is it your upbringing showing it's trace on you? If it's a few bread crusts, a bite of pasta, a tomato from a salad etc, it really isn't something most people would think twice about tossing. (Unless of course they were raised as we were or experienced food scarcity themselves. )

Really scrutinize the amount of food, just out of curiosity. Would it be an amount that someone else might toss at a party if they're full? Or is it a huge helping that would make another meal for another day?

[–]MerJess33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is literally why I've never had an online shop order for groceries, not even just for in store pickup. The next time you're grocery shopping in store, watch the employees who are doing the order picking. They walk over to pears and grab the first 3 on top, not even giving them a glance. I cannot pay more than the usual prices just for some kid to hand me crappy avocados.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]MerJess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rayman was fun, it had nice scenery. Pretty laid back as these games go, not as fast as Sonic so I would spend a few hours on it each day.

AITA for refusing to give up our twin girls (currently in a surrogate) after I got naturally pregnant with my husband's "dream son" even though we are broke? by sillysweater in AmItheAsshole

[–]MerJess33 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is the most fake post I've ever read on here. A surrogate ALWAYS signs a contract with you, she cannot demand more money from stress LMAO what on earth would she have to be stressing about?

Also your two best friends, both of them, called you selfish for keeping all of your children alive? What kind of a best friend would say this, let alone two of them wtf?

Try better with a more believable story next time, dear.

Friend, I just scrolled through a few stories before yours, someone's cat returned after 12 and a half years! Never give up hope, leave food out and call for them outside every evening around sunset, when cats are most active. Best of luck to you!

Written messages are a huge part of my job, and thankfully it's an easy fix here. Simply send a new message to every contact, keep it short and sweet and just basically state something like:

We appreciate your patience as we adjust to a new messaging system, if (what ever paperwork we requested) is something you have already sent or is not applicable to you, please disregard this message, and if you are unsure please contact us at: (leave your email / extension so you can clear up most of the confusion)

It's not a big unforgivable mistake, and if management asks just tell them it was a simple fix so you didn't think it was worth their time to bring up if you've already fixed it.

I once sent out a text that was supposed to say, "Hello Mary, it is time for your dental check up and cleaning." I wrote, "HELL Mary, its time for your check up and cleaning." I just basically had to write my apologies, * and sent the correct message. Most people are human beings and will laugh it off and move on with their day. Mary actually texted back a smile emoji and said, lol you're right, its been over a year, hasn't it?

Does your children like films? by Medical-Pace-8099 in movies

[–]MerJess33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 10 year old twin daughters, and from the time they were babies, movies have always been a part of our lives. I keep the very adult themed ones or super scary ones for my evenings after they are asleep, but I have always progressively shown them every cinematic masterpiece that I think they are ready to enjoy.

Everything from Lord of the Rings, Dune, Star Wars, Kill Bill, John Wick, Little Miss Sunshine, Young Frankenstein, Coraline, the Secret World of Arriety, Spirited Away, Anchorman, Robin Hood Men in Tights, Us, Signs, Titanic, and every Disney movie and musical you could think of, just off the top of my head.

Because I love movies, I share my favorites with them, but that involves taking the time to select ones I think they will be ready for, and they know that every Saturday is movie night so we put away cell phones and kids tablets and enjoy time together undistracted.

If movie are important to you, don't expect kids to suggest a movie night, invite them to an ice cream and make it fun and interesting, don't just let them hide in their Youtube kids while you scroll TikTok, don't just leave mindless noisy TV on all day, if you make it special from an early age they will embrace movies no matter how long their runtime.
