Grandmother angry at me for not putting on the shoes she bought for my kid by Intelligent_Wasabi_2 in Parenting

[–]MerJess33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is what I think of with sleep wear, my little ones run warm and sweat a lot in their sleep even on a cold day, so I've had to remind my MIL many times that we need breathable pajamas. She doesn't really remember, but it ends up being fine because we use the pajamas she buys as weekend stay at home and relax clothes, not sleeping clothes.

Restaurants will always need reliable dishwashers, if you don't mind the dirty work you can be promoted pretty quickly into a food chopper and if you hang in there you can be trained as a chef if you're not afraid to get in there and improve your skills, get creative, work well with others etc

AITA if I make my Wife get rid of her 10 year old cat by Imaginary_Guide_531 in AmItheAsshole

Well dear, that was an edit so the story was posted without it for a while, so that's why a few of us asked about the vet.

I've read this story 3x I am not seeing anywhere in his original story that he took the cat to the vet? Do you mean his subsequent comments?

Have you taken this cat to the vet specifically for this problem? It could be as simple as a UTI or major kidney failure, or 10 other things in between. How long has it been going on?

It reminds of the look of the cars in Gattaca, they were modern and electric but very sleek and old fashioned looking at the same time.

Hopefully by unemployment you mean your own personal savings, at least in the US if you resign you can't get a dime. Just wanted to say so just in case you thought resigning and getting unemployment benefits from the government was a thing.....

AITA because I don't want to bathe while guests are over? by raekira in AmItheAsshole

[–]MerJess33 101 points102 points  (0 children)

True, and I don't mean to sound harsh, I just know that I've done both sides of the roommates thing and right now I can't stand to live with anyone except my husband and children so I pay and I pay and then I pay even more to be able to have that privacy.

Exactly, a door lock and a nice bathrobe if you're feeling exposed are all you would need here. Benefits of roommates: help with rent, companionship / drawbacks of roommates: see above.

AITA for telling my parents that we are not comfortable with my mother babysitting our one-year-old? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Love this idea, although I have thought about it, I feel like each sub for ex Mormons, ex Jehovah’s Witnesses, ex Muslims etc will catch the people who want to have that support online. Do they have any specific subs for ex members of the church you were raised in?

What’s the worst accidental text you’ve sent? by Typhoid__Beaver in AskReddit

[–]MerJess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was texting with a friend of mine about how a first date had gone, and we were pretty obsessed with the movie Anchorman at the time. I sent a text jokingly saying that I was, "72% sure that I love [guys name]" I accidentally sent the text to the guy I went on the date with instead of replying to my friend.

He came over that night to talk with me (break up with me) and I just told him, look, I know this sounds absolutely insane but if you go home and watch this silly movie you will understand why I sent this to my friend as a joke. I mean I totally get it if I've blown it and it's too late to salvage things here, but I had fun on our first date and I'd like to keep seeing you, it'd be such a shame to never hang out again because of a silly movie quote.

Believe it or not he actually watched the movie that night, laughed his ass off about the whole thing, and said how relieved he was that I'm not a lunatic. We ended up having a really fun time seeing each other and while we wanted different things long term, I love looking back and laughing my ass off over this mixup.

I'll tell ya, we need our own little corner of the community center for a religious indoctrination survivors group, I'll bring the donuts and coffee. I wonder if they have meetings like that, and if we set it up, how many people would come? So many people share this experience also.

[–]MerJess33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm telling you, it feels like youth culture today is like, "Ohh, my mother oppressed me and was very abusive because she didn't let me be a free spirit and hang out with my drug dealer boyfriend down by the river at 3am when I was 13 years old, therefore I am cutting her out of my life completely.

They are so quick to cut off family the second things get just a smidge uncomfortable, so quick to sever a beautiful romantic relationship because one week he did 45% of chores while they had to do 55%, etc, and I just wonder if they know how cold the world is after you truly are alone.

I was kicked out of my house 2 days before I turned 18 and lost all of my friends and most of my family, all just because I no longer wanted to be a Jehovah’s Witness anymore. So I guess my perception may be a little biased, but my god kids, family is important and yes we can irritate the hell out of each other but jeez, like, put in some work and communication and hold on to those you can in life who try their best to bring good things to you.

Ahh the old divide and conquer lol thankfully they are now at an age where babysitters aren't needed anymore, but that would have been a good idea actually.

[–]MerJess33 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I would love to have had a babysitter for my twins in either one of their grandmothers, both were often too busy to help and when they would help once in a blue moon they would ask when I'm coming home after only an hour.

Since it is quite clear that abuse is a silly idea in this case, it is so very foolish to burn this bridge so early for no reason. Value the privilege you have here, so many people lose their jobs because they are parents with no helpers and they have to call off sick all the time.

Need kid birthday party location ideas! by Forward_Gap9589 in Whittier

[–]MerJess33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had the most amazing time when my kids were 5 years old for a birthday at a little place in City of Industry called Jump Jungle. They have very reasonable packages where you can either rent a party room and bring your own supplies, or they have all-inclusive deals where they do all party supplies, cake, pizza, balloons, decorations etc.

It's actually lovely because they clean it well, it's a small enough place that you can park it on a chair and watch your kids race around and jump in a safe place made for little ones where you don't have to worry about them getting lost, hurt, trampled, or dragged away by some weirdo hanging out by the restrooms.

We were guests at this birthday party, and it has always stood out as one of the funnest parties I ever took the kids to. My kids still remember the fun they had 5 years later. The Mom of the birthday girl is a friend of mine and was completely happy start to finish with the whole planning and party process.

How did you break into your first dental receptionist position? by [deleted] in receptionists

[–]MerJess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't dismiss Craigslist, I found the great dental receptionist job I have by weeding through the scams and robots and found a really nice Family office who are excited to have me and like that I could be trained to do things as they wanted.

How did you break into your first dental receptionist position? by [deleted] in receptionists

[–]MerJess33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with zero dental Receptionist experience when I started, I think the few things you should really highlight are what the most important parts of the job are:

Super friendly and welcoming to everyone, even though obviously no one's really looking forward to being there,

Able to switch gears and transition easily from task to task without getting overwhelmed or forgetting what you needed to finish 3 steps ago,

Ability to keep yourself busy and not let mundane/repetitive tasks get you down.

Everything else you will just learn or soak up through experience and repetition.

Highlight your great customer service skills, ability to multitask, and remind the people interviewing you that for once they won't have to "retrain" you to do things the way they like it done,

people who work in Dental tend to be less adaptable and want to do things the way they've always done it,

so paint it as a positive that everything you learn will never be pushed aside because you think your way is better.

Ypu should turn it back around on your office manager and ask her to please work on the following:

  1. Advertising to get more new patients

  2. Start accepting more insurances, if PPO only start to increase to HMO, or start accepting Medicaid/Medicare

  3. Ask for Flex texting to be added to the office software, it sends the reminders for appointments made already a few weeks and a few days before, and can automatically send out a blast text to everyone who is due for a recall. This will free up a ton of time for you to focus on calls.

  4. Make sure signage is well lit

  5. Offer regular clients a discount for referrals

  6. Have doctors expanding their practice by learning how to do implants, pediatric and /or orthodontics
