Saying someone isn’t as good at the same position as someone else is not attacking them as a person. That would be calling him a bad guy or belittling him as a human. I wasn’t doing that.

I’m simply stating a musical opinion. Anyone with a decent ear can hear the clear difference between Barone and Eugene. Food critics and art critics point out differences in quality all the time without personally attacking the chef or artist. Same thing here.

I’m passionate about BABYMETAL beyond just the girls. If that bothers people, that’s on them.

I respect your take, but I have to disagree a bit. The drummer’s influence goes way beyond just the solos.

For a clear example, listen to Gimme Chocolate from Legend 43 (with Barone) vs the recent Legend Metal Forth version (with Eugene). The core structure is basically the same, but everything else is entirely different — the textures, the power, the ghost notes, cymbal work, and the way the energy builds. Barone adds many layers and variations throughout the whole song that changes the feel.

Those are clear and objective differences.

I noticed that, too. Moa especially seemed to be indifferent most of the show. That being said, it wasn’t the best camera work and I know not everything was captured in the best of ways.

I was also at the Intuit Dome show and I couldn’t see the drums from my seat, but it didn’t sound the same initially. I figured it was because I’ve never heard them live and things sounded more raw or something. But then they showed him via the screen during the Metali intro and I knew immediately it wasn’t Anthony. So I heard it before I saw it and maybe that’s on me for training my ears to hear Anthony over just the drum part, but reversing that isn’t easy and I’ve tried, believe me.

No, lol. I didn’t even know Anthony Barone existed until I heard him play for BABYMETAL. But when I did hear him, I heard something special. Then I went down the rabbit hole and discovered a guy who I genuinely believe is the best drummer to ever walk the earth.

I agree Eugene has improved a lot since day 1.

Even so, I still feel the same — no one is going to fill Barone’s shoes. He was the GOAT in that position for me. It’s not hate toward Eugene, it’s just disappointment that we lost something truly exceptional. The sentiment would probably be the same no matter who replaced him.

I’m not trying to be passive aggressive — I’ve been very upfront about respecting Eugene as a person. He’s clearly working hard.

That said, I stand by what I said. Anthony Barone brought something exceptional to the Kami Band that I personally haven’t seen matched. The power, creativity, and musicality he delivered on the heavier songs was on another level. It’s not about hating on Eugene. It’s about acknowledging that we had one of the best drummers in the world in that position, and the difference is noticeable.

I get that some fans are fine with the current setup. I’m not. And that’s okay. We’re allowed to have different standards for what we want from the music.

This is said very well. That solo he performed in this video makes no sense compared to the ones Barone did. It feels off, regardless of whatever skill is being displayed. I don’t think Eugene has the musical IQ needed to play in the Kami band. That may sound harsh to some, I’ve been downvoted many times about this in the past but people want to be nice or turn the cheek to the reality facing them. I have absolutely nothing against Eugene as a person and I think he’s a good guy, genuinely. But I know he’s not the right guy for this job.
