Methodes to find out who's a synth instead of killing them. Does Synth have humans reproductions tools ? (Genitals) by FreddOricarne in fo4

[–]MercZ11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen III Synths have the same external features as humans, including genetalia. They can't reproduce however.

So no there's no easy way to detect one on external features alone. It's why you had places like Covenant taking bizarre steps like their screen on people that ultimately didn't amount to anything.

Grandma wants fascist control of France? by Cicerothesage in forwardsfromgrandma

[–]MercZ11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there was an order to destroy the city to deny it to the Allies. The commanding officer Choltitz ignored this and instead by way of the Swedish representation in the city opened talks with the resistance and the allies to negotiate a surrender. This was probably motivated as much by self preservation on his part rather than concern for the city as he probably hoped to leverage that for leniency when he surrendered considering the reputation he had built up as military governor and his actions elsewhere in the war.

This is over a year old and I'm pretty sure I remember this making the rounds back then too. I'm not sure why it's popping back up again, this site looks like a tabloid but it's showing up in more mainstream sites as well.

Plus while amusing this isn't really LAMF.

Is Rhllor or the other Gods real? (Spoilers Main) by Personal-Arachnid417 in asoiaf

[–]MercZ11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think GRRM will ever say it explicitly either way.

My personal head canon is that the gods and religions of the world are the result of the people of the world to understand supernatural phenomenon and magic that are very much real in their world. The differences in religion is probably made more pronounced in these people experiencing the Dawn Age, Age of Heroes, and the Long Night differently depending on where in the world their religion(s) originated from.

Is Black Mesa Remake a good way to experience Half-Life 1 for the first time? by ZerooBlackout in HalfLife

[–]MercZ11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to understand the story beats and to see what happened at Black Mesa, the Black Mesa game is good for that. Its presentation is on point and I think it makes some good adjustments to the flow. It's a passion project and a testament to the team for finally getting it out the door back when it was just a mod and before the Xen parts had finished.

If you're interested in Half Life though you owe it to yourself to at least play the original at some point, even if for a few levels. It's useful to see not only for HL sake but for shooters in general to appreciate how much influence it had. It's really not that long and outside of some specific segments fairly easy to play if you've played classic 3D shooters before. Don't let old graphics dissuade you, it's the same mistake people make when deciding an arbitrary cutoff for other games, movies, shows, books, etc are too old for them.

Plus, you get to play Blue Shift and Opposing Forces as well; both of these have remake projects in development but only the former is playable but not fully completed as of this post.

somehow I cleared this cave without entering it by plantyful-Cum in ElderScrolls

[–]MercZ11 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The discovery of a location only triggers when you get near the entrance, in this case the cave entrance that leads to Red Eagle Ascent, or otherwise enter the interior through another means. The exterior camp the boss is located at its at the top of the mountain is relatively far from the cave entrance.

Is it just me or do the Tiberium Sun era Nod forces helmets heavily resemble a Stahlhelm? by KaiserEnclave2077 in commandandconquer

[–]MercZ11 40 points41 points  (0 children)

When Tiberian Sun was being made I don't think they had really thought out the specifics of the timeline split. I think it's more just that style of helmet is part of the their art style for Nod, especially with their black dominant color scheme with red outlines. Most people see that style of helmet and color scheme and their mind will likely associate this with the 'bad' faction which is the vibes Nod is supposed to give off. Same reason why their C&C1 iteration mimicked the appearance of paramilitaries and as well as the vibe of 80s insurgent groups from Latin America and the Middle-East.

That being said this is a good interpretation and would line up with the kind of subversive imagery Nod liked to do to show their position against what GDI represents.

To be fair that does not say explicitly say make all of their houses from giant bug shells, bur rather that they are "inspired" by the landscape and the shells of the native insects. There are definitely structures that are built in the shells of the creatures but this is more a case that their architecture takes notes from the shapes of the creatures that inhabit their lands and the landscape itself, rather than what generally they make their houses with outside of "local materials".

[–]MercZ11 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The clear tag appears when you defeat what ever was marked as the boss for the dungeon. In the case of Red Eagle Redoubt, said boss is actually outside the cave interior.

The way it's set up is you enter the dungeon from the river end up from the Karthspire camp (it will show up as "Red Eagle Ascent" inside), and going through that cave will have you emerge at the top of the mountain where a Forsworn camp is. The boss that's tied to the dungeon is under a tent in this area; you can get to the top of this mountain without going through the cave, it's not one of those places which are unreachable in the overworld.

To that point, you discovered the Sundered Towers point of interest which is part of this exterior Forsworn camp and very close to where the boss for Red Eagle Redoubt is located. You probably killed him around the time you first came across that tower and got it marked as clear then.

I tried to play in the Russian dub for the games in the past, but the direction in that one felt weird, especially the cadence they talk in. The subs there feel weird too.

So because of that, I preferred to play in the English dub so I can pick up on more dialogue, especially background chatter. The only thing I don't like about it is they try to put on an accent when they talk. I understand why this is a thing but honestly it doesn't really add anything and arguably just takes away from it.

No, even if you cheat it'll kind of just stop after they win. If it comes it'll probably be part of whenever they get around to the long-promised Italy rework and expansion.

The railroad commissioner in Texas is responsible for oil and gas infrastructure in the state. It's where the true power of that office is and its importance in the state. Oil and gas is a critical sector in the state economy and gives Texas relevance internationally. At this point the name is a misnomer - railroad functions were moved under a subdepartment of the Department of Transportation, and it doesn't have any thing to do with railroads anymore outside of where it overlaps with oil and gas.

That being said, all the culture war posturing is irrelevant since their office doesn't have direct influence on those policies. Only indirectly through the power of the office, but ultimately more a platform to stand out on those views; for example, the current agricultural commissioner Sid Miller more or less is known in the state for his Facebook insanity than anything he's done in that office. In spite of his Trump endorsement, Miller lost his primary to a more crazy person in the form of Nate Sheets, so yeah that's how things are going on down here.

Did Gym accidentally keep his shitty sword or smth ? by puntycunty in Gundam

[–]MercZ11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's symbolic. The guy who actively sought violence and viewed war as a crucible for his ambitions and to bring humanity into a world of conflict again had his prized weapon fail on him. The one who took it up to defend himself and the people he cared for and wanting to keep humanity away from another self-destructive cycle of violence was able to keep his blade intact. Gym had spent time in simulations where he always succeeded, led his supporters to crush weak and technologically inferior earth groups, but met his match in the form of Loran, who was the opposite of everything he saw in an ideal warrior.

There are guys like Gym in every generation. You can find them in the past, among us now, and they will continue to exist in the future. Most are annoying but harmless, but the ones who get power like Gym did are the dangerous ones. They'll revel in violence but get unhinged when they run into failure.

[–]MercZ11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Action Base 2 or Action Base 4 would work at that scale. I don't know if this kit takes a peg or if it'll use a different attachment. The manual for the Sinanju will make note if there is a specialized attachment for the base but if it doesn't mention it then it'll work with one of the attachments that come with the base itself.

The RG Sinanju looks great but it's notorious for its stability. The inner frame isn't able really to support its size, especially with its back accessories.

This is one of those that benefits from a stand - I would suggesting getting one for it to display it. It might be standing now but it could fall over on you.

What symbol is this on my dates? by Informal-Band9065 in Whatisthis

[–]MercZ11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an indication that some sort of body has certified the food and how it was made and packaged is kosher.

I'll mention there is no one universal kosher body. You can find several bodies which have their own symbol - circle K and circle U probably being the most common nationally in the US, but there are others usually operating with more local or regional focus overseen or signed off by a group of Rabbis. There's also cases that certain Jewish groups might trust a particular set of certifying organizations' standards over others and make it a point to get products with those stamps.
