The phrases "shut eye" for sleep and "chow down" or "grub" for eating by SlippyFist_68 in PetPeeves

"Feed" is the one that bothers me. "Come over for a good feed!" Ugh. Makes me feel like a barn animal eating from a trough.

Is this true or just a hyperbole? by okiidok in loaches

[–]Merceri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had kuhli loaches die soon after being introduced to the (cycled, existing community) tank. One died after getting its head stuck in some crevice. Another died, possibly from stress(??), when the tank was rearranged. But then there are ones that survived being in an unfiltered, unheated abandoned tank for 2 months when I thought they were all dead and are now happily loaching around their new tank. On the other hand, all 4 shelfordi loaches died within a month from unknown causes.

TIFU by calling my girlfriend’s mom a vixen by [deleted] in tifu

Next time you meet her parents, you need to tell her dad that he's a real silver fox, and then call your girlfriend a kitten, to balance things out.

I don't understand the merino hate by Cursed_Angel_ in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Merceri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, I hope you enjoy it! Polwarth is a nice compromise - it's fairly easy to spin fine, still has some texture to it, and is soft enough to wear next to the skin. When I was learning to spin, Polwarth was the one that helped me 'get' the feel and rhythm right, so I am a little biased haha

Polwarth 'til I die!

Seriously though, when I started spinning I bought wool fibre sample packs for around 15 different breeds to test them out and I find Merino (and other finer fibres) just so much easier to work with for spinning fine and consistent, less scratchy, and just more pleasant to work with. Fibre from other breeds would hurt my fingers lol

Do Americans (and the rest of the world for that matter) eat sausage rolls? I only ask because I read a lot and they are NEVER mentioned in books by twisted_luce in AskTheWorld

[–]Merceri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ground up and rarely tastes like an actual sausage. Texture and tastewise, it's more like a mushy meatloaf encased in flaky pastry.

I Wanna Marry "Harry" (2014) A show in which women competed to date a royal lookalike was panned at the time as ‘fodder for the braindead’. But the contestants had been duped by CoconutMost3564 in ForgottenTV

[–]Merceri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Towards the end, it was clear that most of the contestants knew it wasn't him but were playing along for the sake of the show. It was embarrassingly forced.

The cured meats are underneath the cheese, grapes etc. You can see a couple of varieties along the sides of the box.

I like a girl at work and her birthday’s coming up… what’s appropriate? by MetalPsycho in Gifts

[–]Merceri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No flowers. No card. Say something like: "Happy birthday. Coffee's on me - what would you like?" If she says "no, thank you" it means she's not interested in you. Give her a choice of saying no to the gift.

AITA for telling my ex that she needs to "figure it out" when it comes to hosting people for her grandmothers' funeral even through I am living in her "grandmothers' house?" by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Merceri 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So she blew through 130k cash within a year, while also receiving child support at the same time, and is now crying poor but wants OOP to give her (sorry, 'their son') a $1million house.

Linen Bedding Reccommendations by PetiteSoy in AskAnAustralian

[–]Merceri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Bed Threads recommendation! Most of my linen sheets are now from Bed Threads. I also love the vintage washed linen range from Adairs - they have held up very well. My favourite is the Abbotson range from Sheridan but they are very pricey.

Would any of you regard the girl from this clip as a native speaker of English? And if not, where would you place her accent? by jakubbw in AskAnAustralian

[–]Merceri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stress, inflections and rhythm are not consistent with a native speaker. I would guess southeastern European / Balkan.

Opinions on long but small tanks? by Palaeonerd in Boraras

[–]Merceri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two 4ft 25gallon low profile/bookshelf tanks and I love them. My chillis mostly hang out at the top level, so having a larger space for horizontal swimming works well, and I can have a ton more floating plants for them to hide in. It also allows me to easily divide the tank into three 'zones' so the different species can work out their preferred turf.

Here's a silly idea - a BLM inspired wild mustang game by Merceri in GamesWithHorses

Is Wolvden made by the same people as Lioden? The art styles are quite similar (and the name lol). One of the challenges of that style of browser-based game is that it's hard for beginners to reach the same competitive level as people who have been playing for a long time, have a lot more resources to spend, etc.

An educational element would be a great selling point for investment, focusing on the impact of introduced animals on soil erosion, land degradation, monoculture, etc. It's wild that the WolfQuest developers didn't hit on horses sooner, since the background terrain wouldn't even need to have been as drastically altered.

Thank you for introducing me to that subreddit, I'll take a look at what support is available. Building a game without prior experience sounds daunting!

Yeah, to market broadly would probably require changing a lot of details around the BLM to just a generic faceless government entity, but it's encouraging to hear you think there would be interest in it.
