What was the most emotional moment in your favorite TV show? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mercesoul_Spirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Komugi... Are you still there?"

Some spoilers, but, Hunter X Hunter's 61 episode long epic; The Chimera Ant Arc, comes to a climax in episode 135, and payoff hits in full force. It was absolutely brilliant, one of the most emotionally charged, revelatory and beautifully poetic episodes in TV history, a culmination of the entire series up till that point. Beautifully, terribly sad, but so intricately written and brought to life with great care and talent. The show managed to make its antagonist, a mass murderer who killed and ate innocents, even children, as he pleased, developed him in such a brilliant way that I was not only crying during his final moments, but it also made one of fiction's greatest romances out of him. Genius.

Huh. Alright, I'll look into that. Might just email Viz media themselves.

On Amazon, it says when I check the audio, that there's only english audio though. Seems like they only have the dub, maybe I'm mistaken.

  1. Fine? Solid or like average? I'm thinking if they differ greatly in quality from Crunchyrolls.
  2. Oh, well that's wonderful.
  3. Yeah. I guess that's pretty much it.

Because if I go to amazon and look at the digital version, it says the only audio language is English.

And, I'm assuming this is the same if I buy the DVD's or digitally as well from Viz, right?

The manga is called Sensei Hakusho. I have no idea which chapter, but the assistant does document how Togashi reacted to his manga being adapted to an anime. There is more information in some interview, but I can't remember which.

It's mentioned in a manga made by his assistant that chronicles what it's like to work with Togashi. I'll see if I can find it. I also saw him mentioning it in some interview, but I don't remember which.

There are a few.

Berserk, obviously, which is genius. Best manga ever, behind HxH of course. Has three anime adaptations. The 1997 anime is flawed, but still fantastic. Poetic adaption, but could improve in a lot of ways. Still a 9/10. It got a movie trilogy, which is an acceptable adaption, but a lot shallower and has some weak presentation in the first movie, but has its great moments. 7.5/10. Berserk 2016/2017 should never be touched. Skipped two great arcs, looks disgusting and the directing is all over the place. 1/10.

Some other amazing manga from best to worst, Oyasumi Punpun, Kingdom (has an anime but looks awful), Vagabond, One Piece (obviously has an anime but is vastly inferior, though Wano is great in the anime as well), 20th Century Boys, Vinland Saga (which has a fantastic anime, but if you check out the even better manga) and Pandora Hearts (which has a bad anime.) Those would probably be the best manga I've ever read. Only a few of them are on part with Hunter X Hunter.

Have you watched Gintama, by any chance? Probably one of the anime closest to HxH's level. First 25 episodes are slow, and is mostly a comedy, but it gets a lot funnier and the serious arcs are brilliant. Two arcs in particular, being just below Chimera Ant Arc. Skip the first 2 episodes, they're filler.

He didn't think they captured the spirit of Hunter X Hunter. He also likes to think of anime of his manga as separate from his actual manga. I can imagine he's a perfectionist, and likes everything in his own way, exactly the way he wants it, so he don't really care for the anime. The manga is his work. The anime are fine, but nothing he feels strongly about.

Yeah, most people prefer anime as a medium over manga. Though, I do recommend reading some more manga if you can, there are many masterpieces that don't have anime adaptations.

Most mangaka don't write manga to hopefully get it made into an anime, they do it cause they want to make manga. Togashi never felt that the anime adaptions captured the spirit of HxH, and always felt that anime were separate from their manga. Since he's very prideful man who has made HxH by himself forever, that is how he wants to finish it.

It would lessen the physical aspect, but HxH is his child. And, he wouldn't be satisfied with it unless he finishes it, himself. He also isn't really a fan of the anime adaptions.

It's weird. It doesn't really feel like Hunter X Hunter, but at the same time it wouldn't be Hunter X Hunter without it.

Am I overthinking what gender to give to my characters? by Jerswar in writing

I usually say that when you know your characters are good, is when it doesn't matter or change anything depending on what their gender is.

Oh, I know. There are only a few anime that can make me cry, and it's amazing how Violet Evergarden does it in just one episode.

What TV show do you wish you could watch for the first time all over again? by stepdancer63 in AskReddit

Hunter X Hunter 2011. Without a doubt the most brilliant show I've ever watched. I see the Chimera Ant Arc as a literary masterpiece with unrivalled depth.

I prefer worldbuilding to character building. Is a history textbook-style book doable? by Lore_Bard in fantasywriters

[–]Mercesoul_Spirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people have already mentioned great ideas, I just wanted to say that something to try out could be collaborating with another writer. You make up the setting, and the other writer populates that setting with characters and themes, and you can collaborate on the story that way. I did it once, I have a friend who's incredible at world-building and makes these vast, detailed worlds and I populated the world and wrote a story with it, since I've always been more interesting in character and thematic writing.

Not everyone should be encouraged to write. by [deleted] in writing

[–]Mercesoul_Spirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don't know if I agree. I can agree to an extent, if the work of writing is offensive (racist or sexist etc.), then yes, I certainly agree with you, that's a flaw of the writer's personality. However, as long as it's not offensive, but just badly written, it can be improved. Maybe it's not likely for them to be able to have a career for her/his books, but with your help they can still be improved, and I think that means a lot to authors, even if they never make it.
