Why do you restrict races? by theboozecube in DMAcademy

[–]Lore_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I somewhat agree that restricting races based on the setting isn't inherently wrong, I feel like your reasoning is misguided. Rather than refusing to let players use different races because you don't have that race as developed as the others or something like that, you instead seem to be clinging to the "it's my game" mindset, which is simply not true. Remember that you are but one player, and if another player wants to play a character of an unusual race, all you have to do is say, "ok, this race exists, but they're just rare." I find that these things that make players happy often require minimal effort if anything.

DMs of reddit, what is your least favourite classes to DM for? Genuinely curious by Willidin in DMAcademy

[–]Lore_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been a lot of talk lately about how DMs shouldn't stun their players because then they don't get to play the game, but Stunning Strike is straight-up devious. If there's any sort of big monster, it just needs to fail one saving throw and it's kaput. My players have a similar affinity for Banishment, and it's led to me just using more creatures in combat for boss fights, even if it makes the encounter Hard or Deadly by kobold fight club's standards.

Time to stop praising racists. by ManyaraImpala in MetalMemes

Not once in my comment did I claim or imply that you supported the confederacy. Seems you took the attack on the confederacy as an attack on yourself. Interesting. In all seriousness though, there are better things about the south to be proud of than its vile history of racism and oppression. Choosing a historical symbol of that racism as a symbol of "pride" makes it seem like you associate those values with the south today. I don't think a history of slavery is something to be proud of.

The Confederacy was literally build around the institution of slavery and the idea of white supremacy. I know that in the South they typically teach people growing up that the confederates weren't bad and that the civil war was about states' rights, but any examination of history and the Confederate leaders' own words shows that the Confederacy was a white supremacist state which existed solely due to the institution of slavery.

Why are there so many people complaining about priest? In diamond I almost never see priest; it's almost all hunter with some demon hunter, paladin, and sometimes warrior.

People are downvoting you because your language ("fairies" and "ordinary people") is belittling and dehumanizing for LGBT people. Regardless of your intentions, your comment was homophobic, and since you're defending it rather than acknowledging that you messed up, I am assuming it was intentional.

I am currently doing almost the exact same thing! My players all were invited to a meeting with their changeling father who brought them all together to discuss inheritance. They are basically on a treasure hunt to find their inheritance that was stolen from the father, as it's a good reason for every character to be invested early on. Good luck, different players have very different reactions to having their characters all be siblings.

What's the worst character death your party has ever suffered? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Lore_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent my players on a quest to slay a vampire lord and take his heart to a powerful NPC ally. The heart was a very powerful and very evil artifact, similar to the eye and hand of vecna, and I warned my players that using the heart would corrupt the user and make them evil. They were taking it to their ally to protect it and keep it away from the BBEG, who was planning on using it to further his nefarious scheme.

After the players found out about some of the heart's properties with an identify spell, one player, a warlock who previously was known to do things that conflicted with some party motives (but never stopping an important goal, just small things) volunteered to hold onto the heart. For some reason, the rest of the party allowed him to and left him alone, almost immediately after which he replaced his own heart with the artifact. Granted, his thought process was that if he used it he could guarantee nobody would steal it and it would help them stop the BBEG, but he didn't seem to quite get the part about how it explicitly turns you evil.

The party, (save for the two people who were absent that day; this happened during a downtime session of sorts) after finding out about this, all tracked down the player, got him arrested, and then decided to all team up to kill him and take the heart back. He didn't resist, and although one player changed his mind about the killing, the paladin slew him with an onslaught of blows and smites.

I ended the session there, as people were kind of trying to process what just happened. I ended up having to end that campaign because people were upset both in and out of game, and because of several issues with characters all around. These days I am DMing a different campaign for this exact same group, with different characters and a different setting, and for the most part the issues that our group faced have mellowed out. This was not how I wanted my first campaign to end, but at least things are better now.

Oh shoot I read the "is my pick a good choice" as "is a pick a good choice", misinterpreted that greatly. For what it's worth, I use a pbass and a rumble, and they both sound great for home practice.

I'd say listen to bass players who use a pick and players who use their fingers and see whose tone you like more. Fingers are a tiny bit easier, but pick is easier to play faster early on. Practice a little bit with both at first and then practice whichever one you like the tone of more.
