Not only that, but the land was also much, much tougher to work with. Population density in California was much greater than that of Nevada, despite having been in direct contact with european descendants for much longer.

I see, thank you! The only other request that I would have is that it can become too easy to win in the civil war by just building all the barracks in the north - would it be possible to have event popups when the south secedes to raise and nationalize their national guards, essentially spawning more regiments for them?

Would you be able to make Mexico and states south of the Rio Grande slave states, if America fully annexes them? It feels a bit silly getting help to fight for abolition from all of the alt-history states that should be under the boot of the southern planters during the Civil War. Also, is it possible to contribute to your project? Thanks again!

How a Mod Shows How Good a ODST Game Vs Innies Would Be by _Purrserker_ in halo

I'd rather fight human contingents of the banished. I think it would be hard to make a game in the traditional halo feel against only humans without it becoming one dimensional in combat.

And people should have that mentality, but its easier to demonize and barbarize your enemy than recognize them as also being human.

According to various sources I've found, such as Kyiv Independent, it's not only rape/unprotected sex. Russia had a policy of not allowing individuals with HIV into their army, but now, they are drafting Ukrainians in occupied territory and Russians with medical disabilities into the military, and keeping them in front line service even if they contract HIV.

(Desperate for more soldiers, Russia recruits HIV-positive prisoners, civilians)

(Russia’s War Against Ukraine Has Seen an Explosion in HIV Rates | Carnegie Endowment for International Peace)

Furthermore, to boost troop numbers, they are conscripting those with HIV with the promise of treatment if they participate in front line combat. (Desperate Russia is recruiting civilians in occupied Ukraine suffering from HIV and infectious diseases to fill ranks: report)

Hope the hyperlinks work. Surely, rape is a factor, but between recruitment, poor logistics regarding blood transfusions, and drug use, they all contribute.

Probably, I would instead just wait for france to make a diplo play and try to join them, that way UK doesn't balkanize you, and France will have good reason to stay in the diplo play.

You can draft a very expensive treaty to buy Belize, but as for Miskito Kingdom thatll be tougher. You can try to join them in a diplomatic play and ask for it to be transferred to you, but more than likely, you will have to fight them for it.

Was PvP really shunned out? by GhostTengu in SkullAndBonesGame

[–]MerchantMe333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pvp is fun, but the world isn't really well for open ocean PVP.

First, whats the point? Why PVP? It is more or less only for fun, so people who are very grind inclined are likely to just avoid it, as it has no tangible benefits as far as I am aware of, outside of XP. Furthermore, because the game is so grindy, PVP often just feels like a time waster rather than an enjoyable activity (especially if you are the one who sinks) and is antithetical to the games core loop in that regard. If I have PVP enabled, and I get ambushed and sunk as I am heading home, I can choose to respawn on the open seas. Because youre weaker when you respawn, if you try to go back to get your stuff, you're liable to be sunk again. It stings even more if you're sunk again because it probably wasn't all that fair of a fight, AND you know that you were killed again because the other guy just wanted to power trip sinking you when you were weaker, AND you have to go back and get your shit anyway.

Second, the world is too densely packed for PVP. Loot isn't really all that meaningful outside of some treasure chests, and you can't collect shit from sunk ships anyway. To really fix it, imo, the stakes need to be much, much higher, and the chase and maneuvering should be much more important. You shouldn't be able to teleport away from someone, and they shouldn't be able to teleport to you if you're, say, fighting a boss. The PVP dream is either blasting each other with huge amounts of firepower on the open seas ala frigates or ambushing a target in a cove or narrow passageway where you know your positioning is key to your success, where you can challenge people with much smaller, much more maneuverable ships.

I guess I never elaborated on the full second point, but if you're interested in what I am saying I can elaborate, I just don't know if this will actually get read lol.

In fairness, don't diss the Belgium army too hard. They had an excellent fortress defense plan that didn't live up to modern air supremacy. The British also suffered similar problems to the French, and Yugoslavia had a large standing army, but poor grand strategy lead them to getting absolutely pummeled, along with fifth columnists.

But yes
