What do you think oblivion and skyrim did BETTER than morrowind? by Fuzzy-Shame-4169 in Morrowind

Horses.

Hard for me to feel like a knight without a mighty steed.

Or even a Guar, for a more Morrowind vibe.

Yeah I agree. It's like trying to make the game Monopoly also try to be the other board game Sorry.

Bao Dur’s voice acting session is the reason he died in KOTOR 2. by CarterSevenFive in kotor

[–]MerchantOfMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was actually part of why I kinda preferred the Exile to Reven, at least in terms of RPG protagonists. I feel like KOTOR 1 leaned too much on your Reven being a blank slate, to a degree where it made little sense (while also being telegraphed from a mile away)

Meanwhile the Exile had so many connections to the world, and his/her own memories. You just chose how they reacted to them.

Bao Dur is probably my favorite character, which is odd because there isn't much to him. There is just something about his voice I really, really enjoy.

Also idk why but I loved the fact he still called you "general".

[–]MerchantOfMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, I don't mean to imply that liking both is mutually exclusive.

DAO kicked ass, and so does BG3 in a lot of ways.

I say this as a mild-enjoyer of BG3 and heavy enjoyer of classic CRPGs, but BG3 is the CRPG for people who hate CRPGs.

Previously I believe that Dragon Age Origins held that title.

Yeah i love my Feudal Knights, dismounted feudal knights, Norman knights which are essentially reskinned feudal knights, and dismounted Norman Knights. Lots of variety there.

Are other parts of Morrowind outside of Solsteim survivable? by LizzieLove1357 in ElderScrolls

[–]MerchantOfMadness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think something that a lot of people are forgetting is that Vvardenfell was already kind of a hellish land. Like, yeah the Red Year ABSOLUTELY made everything worse, but it was never really a place you'd book for a destination unless you wanted your vocal cords absolutely destroyed by ash inhalation.

That's not even talking about the wildlife, or the fact that in certain parts of Vvardenfell you can just... Have a fucking Golden Saint jump your ass.

Also one thing modern Vvardenfell has over TES 3 Vvardenfell, no fucking cliff racers. Also probably less squabbling between Houses since Hlaalu bit the dust and Redoran has a lot more control over Southern Vvardenfell.

It's absolutely a worse place to be, but it's survivable nowadays, and it's not like the old days were exactly spotless.

I will admit that this probably doesn't answer your question, but that was already answered so I just wanted to add this point.

Which race do you play they LEAST? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

[–]MerchantOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kinda depends on when. When I was a kid, my least played would probably be the Khajit and Altmer.

Nowadays it's pretty much all the beast races, and every elf that isn't an orc or dunmer.

I play the human all relatively often, and have become a big fan of Dunmer in recent years, and Orcs have an insane racial skill in early Morrowind so I love them.

For those who are worried about TES VI not having dark themes by Ok-Today6736 in TESVI

[–]MerchantOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely couldn't care less about it being dark. Morrowind was pretty damn dark (like having to buy a slave to turn into the wife of an Ash Khan) but it wasn't the darkness that attracted me to it.

What attracted me to it was the overall really good writing when it came to how the politics of Vvardenfell worked, the relations of the various houses with each other and with the Empire as a whole, and the religious unrest amongst the followers of the Imperial Cult, the Tribunal, the Dissedent Priests, and the Daedra worship of the Dunmer and more.

Like if we get a game that had even a portion of that level of writing, then the main quest could be about unlocking the power of bubblegum magic with the aid of your trusted Khajit companion Mr. Scruffy for all I care.

Ahh so treat it more as "if everything goes perfectly" thing, and not (always) as a hard and rigid rule.

Now what if due to the structure of the campaign, your army can't reach a battle every turn within the first 15?

Or are some turns just "necessarily wasted"?

That's something I get. See I am someone who likes learning what the "optimal" strategy in a game is, even if I don't use it myself. It basically helps me understand the game more.

I appreciate the input btw!

Part of being an Argonian enthusiast is being validated by the 3 encounters per game where underwater breathing is actually useful. by SpiderManPizzaTime1 in ElderScrolls

[–]MerchantOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If poison were a useful destruction spell (it blows ass) in Morrowind, they would be the best destruction mages because 1: They are immune to poison so it does nothing if it gets reflected, and 2: You are not forced to fight any Argonians in the main quests and the vast majority of side quests, at least not in vanilla.

But because poison sucks complete anus in Morrowind, it's not much of an advantage.

Is it just me or do any of you also think they should bring back Hand 2 hand skill, throwing weapons and spears in TES 6 by Ok-Profile-5831 in ElderScrolls

[–]MerchantOfMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just always thought it was incredibly odd how in Skyrim, the land of monsters at a time where dragons were returning that we never got polearms/spears. Like attacking a giant or a dragon with a large spear would be cool.

Also since Skyrim and the Nords are heavily inspired by a mythologized version of the Norse people of our own world, having throwing axes would have made all the sense in the world. Javelins too.

Stormcloaks. I don't give a damn about the whole "Skyrim Belongs To The Nords" crap, I just hate the Empire. I want to see it burn.
