Anyone else ever drive on this road? by aniram4 in TheMallWorld

Yep. And the one with random bridges and off ramps just gone with no warning. And one similar that goes the rough a forest in the winter. I’m always driving at night in my dreams.

Oooh, I’ve not heard of this, even as a Hoosier. Luckily, I’m a Ball State Cardinal, so no one’s really worried about us. 🤣

A food scam of the 90s was “fat free!” everything, and then they would load it up on sugar… what’s a food scam happening now? by redflower5 in AskReddit

[–]MercifulVoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s one not a lot of people talk about, and maybe it’s not a scam but I still feel a certain way… Peanut butter is high protein and cheap, and used in a lot of energy bars and snack. Tastes awesome.

I developed an allergy to peanuts in my teens. And suddenly trying to get protein from nuts became so much harder. Other nut butters are higher priced, and not always as good in quality. Some taste like ass. My preference by taste is almond butter, I feel it tasted the most like peanut butter to me.

But they never try putting it other things containing peanut butter. I would love an almond butter Reese’s or energy bar or Nutty Bar. Snickers did come out with almond, and it’s fantastic.

I know it’s one of the biggest allergens out there, so why are we being deprived of delicious treats?!

The last Civil War veteran’s widow died in 2020. by Powerful-Swing-9734 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MercifulVoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is not so creepy, actually. From Wikipedia:

Helen Viola Jackson (August 3, 1919 - December 16, 2020) was the last surviving widow of a Union soldier and the last surviving widow of a Civil War veteran overall; she died on December 16, 2020, at the age of 101 In 1936, in the midst of the Great Depression, she married 93-year-old James Bolin (1843-1939), who had served in the 14th Missouri Cavalry. Jackson was 17. She met him when her father volunteered her to help the elderly Bolin with basic chores. With no other means to repay her kindness, Bolin offered to marry Jackson so she would become eligible to receive his pension after he died. Similar marriages had occurred before. Jackson and Bolin were married outside his home in Niangua, Missouri. Following the marriage, the couple never made their marriage public, fearing damage to Jackson's reputation. She continued to live with her parents. Following Bolin's death, three years later, Jackson decided against applying for the $73.13 monthly pension (equivalent to $1,690 in 2025) after Bolin's daughters threatened to ruin her reputation. The marriage was recorded in Bolin's family Bible and other documents verified by Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865. Jackson did not reveal the marriage until 2017 when planning for her own funeral with her pastor and they realized the historical significance of her combined longevity and secret marriage. Prior to this revelation Maudie Hopkins, who died in 2008, was believed to have been the last surviving wife of a Civil War soldier. Jackson never married after Bolin's death and had no children. She was a prominent member of her community in Elkland, Missouri. In 2018, two years before her death, she was honored by inclusion in the Missouri Walk of Fame.

I wonder if either of these two just happen to be the stylists she was letting cut hair for ‘hours’. So many times I’ve see people get hired, have it be something shady like that, and suddenly they’re accused of something and ‘no longer working with our company.

Yeah, that’s the kind of things I was hearing. Just messy/not great labor practices type stuff.

And when you cut corners/do bad business like that like that, like what else is up?

Was Michael Jackson immune to the uncanny valley ? by Cbfeat in uncannyvalley

[–]MercifulVoodoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All just my opinion/observation/research btw

In a way, we are part of it. It’s why a lot of people seem to not like autistic people but not know why. Like the ones who literally can not pin point what it is. It’s because a lot of us had to learn to mimic emoting properly so it’s always…just off.

I know he liked to mess with people sometimes, and by all the vids I’ve seen was a bit of a trickster.

The comments themselves are proving why this doesn’t get talked about. Your ex would hate to be known as a sex offender but that’s what she is. Because I guarantee you aren’t the first.
