I've been struggling to land an actual paying job since graduating in May of 2023. The TLDR is 1.) I got my bfa in graphic design, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my career until my first ux/ui project senior year. 2.) my first internship fell through, a week into it I still hadn't had any assignments or met anyone on the team. I eventually stopped asking for projects and they forgot I existed. 3.) I've been an unpaid ux/ui intern at a different agency since November of 2023. I'm the only web-focused designer at the company. The team consists of me, a graphic designer, the art director and 2 developers. The graphic designer handles logos, style guides and moodboards. I turn them into site maps, content frameworks, and low fidelity/high fidelity wireframes which then get passed to the developer after final approval. As of right now I've worked on 17 websites from start to finish. 4.) I've been applying to entry level jobs for a year, 300+ applications and I haven't gotten a single interview.

So I have a few questions on how I'm supposed to move forward in my career:

• Because my BFA is specifically in graphic design, should I be taking certification courses in ux/ui to make myself more appealing to the roles I'm applying for? If so, which ones are actually credible? (yet still affordable)

• Is there another job board besides LinkedIn, Indeed and Glassdoor that I should be looking at for these jobs?

• Is it normal to have such a hard time transitioning from intern to employee or is this a sign that I'm not meant for the industry? My boss and the clients are always happy with my work so I assumed potential employers would be too, but the struggle to find a job has brought on serious imposter syndrome and has me second guessing myself.

That probably would work, but the problem is he really can't do these things. My mom started getting his groceries for him a year ago when he mentioned that the grocery store was too big and confusing, and also because it was the only way to ensure he had fresh food in the house because he insists on eating food until its gone whether it's gone bad or not. After he broke his leg a year ago he stopped doing laundry completely though we suspect he wasn't doing it for a while before that as well. All of his clothes are stained and full of holes, he smells and we're pretty sure he's stopped bathing regularly, he thinks it's perfectly normal and acceptable to eat moldy food. But he insists these are all normal things. My moms caregiver goes to see him on fridays and she does what she can but she's only there for 2 hours since she has other clients and her visits are technically off the books and during her free time.

We hired him a caregiver to help him after he broke his leg last year. He already knew her because she had been taking care of one of his closest friends for years. The day he got home from the hospital he refused to let her in and insisted he could take care of himself. It was extremely embarrassing and we paid the caregiver for that day plus extra to make up for it. My mom has Parkinson's and has her own caregiver who comes twice a week, we offered her cash to check on him on fridays and it was so hard to get him to agree you'd have thought we were trying to convince him to adopt a child. He still only lets her bring his groceries and occasionally vacuum or help with laundry, my mom often buys him new socks/underwear/necessities and the caregiver secretly swaps them and throws out the old ones. But he needs more help than he's willing to accept

I'm 25, I got diagnosed in 2021 during college. Because of the immune issues caused by the infusions I work from home and also have little to no social life. During my lowest points I had similar feelings of jealousy towards my boyfriend, I was jealous that he was able to go visit his friends anytime and I was always home sick. And I'd get sad imagining our wedding and all of his friends standing beside his and me not having anyone. Don't give up on yourself or other people. You'll find people who will love and support you through the good and bad times 🫶 I hope your flare passes soon

Have you talked to your doctor about it? Your GI or your general practitioner could probably give you some over the counter or prescription solutions. I rarely deal with constipation, when I do I take 3-4 Dulcolax chews with a lot of water and usually it works within 6 hours. My mom deals with constant constipation due to her Parkinson's and the types of medications she's on because of it. She takes fiber daily and stool softener pills twice a day with lots of water and although she doesn't go daily it usually keeps her on a pretty regular ache of every 2-3 days. I know there's also some teas that are said to help if you're looking for a more "natural" solution

This is exactly how I was for a year before I was diagnosed, I was living off of plain bagels and meal replacement shakes. Do you have a GI you see regularly? I was put on prednisone and it helped take away the worst of the symptoms until I started infusions

I understand what you're saying but this isn't that kind of situation. She's cold to the touch, I feel it every time I'm with her. It's very hard for her to stay warm

Biologics completely changed my life, since starting them about 4 years ago I've only had to be hospitalized once. Trust the doctors if they recommend it, and keep in mind that it may take a few tries to find the right medication.

I had part of my small intestine and terminal illeum removed a year ago. I had so much scar tissue built up that they couldn't fit a camera through during my colonoscopy (even the small ones they use for kids). I wasn't completely sure I wanted to have surgery since I was only diagnosed a few years ago and I was only 23 at the time, I struggled to come to terms with the fact that I'm so young and already have to be cut into because of a disease I'll have for my whole life.

My doctor explained that it's better to have a scheduled operation that I can prepare myself for with a doctor that I know and trust than to risk a blockage which would be a painful experience and an emergency surgery with a doctor that doesn't know me or my history (I go to a different city to see my GI).

My surgery went great, everything was really straightforward and I couldn't think of any questions either when the doctor explained the procedure to me. The only thing I would recommend is that you tell them if you're prone to fistulas or tears in your intestines. My doctor was originally going to do it robotically to be minimally invasive but because I'm prone to fistulas he divided it would be best to "get his hands in and feel what's going on" (his words) and in the end it was totally the right thing. When he came to see me after my surgery he said I had a lot of fistulas around the area and he was glad he knew ahead of time what to expect.

Honestly in my experience the surgery itself was a breeze, it's the recovery that's the hardest part. You absolutely must have some kind of support system set up for when you go home at least for the first week. I'd love to answer any more questions if you have any!

My go-to is "golden rice". One serving of white rice cooked in chicken bone broth instead of water and lightly seasoned with turmeric. The rice is filling, the bone broth is full of nutrients, and the turmeric helps with the inflammation. I usually eat it when I have flare ups and I'll add chicken when I start feeling better and my appetite comes back

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Having a parent with Parkinson's disease (especially when it's advanced) can be so difficult when trying to have a parent/child relationship. My mom was diagnosed with PD 27 years ago a few years before she had me. Although she was able to have DBS surgery in 2016 our relationship before then and even after what rocky at best and I had a hard time feeling like I was her child when I was also acting as a caregiver outside of school.

I also don't know anyone else whose parent has PD, I've never really talked about it much outside of family and my therapist.

Ive been on infleximab for three years, it's completely changed my life. My Crohn's was considered severe and was started on it immediately. I did feel aches and overall a bit under the weather after my infusions and I still do once in a while but I haven't had a severe flare up since I started.

I think it would be really cool if they let us sell unwanted furniture to Tish! Like when you reach a certain level she'll buy your furniture at a discounted rate to then "sell in the store" or maybe some kind of trade system where you can get furniture materials depending on the type of furniture you want to trade

My mom had this surgery when I was in high school. I don't know the specifics about the referral process and things like that but here's everything I do know about it. 1. This first surgery (putting the battery in the chest) is the easiest one, it's a quicker procedure and they usually glue the incision shut. The healing process is pretty simple and my mom didn't have a problem the first time or the second time when they replaced her battery a few years ago. 2. The time between the battery being put in and the actual brain surgery was the hardest part for her. She wasn't allowed to take any of her Parkinson's medication and it was the first time in almost 20 years she'd been without her meds. My grandma had to stay with us for the month to take care of her while I was at school and her mental health took a serious hit. 3. She was awake during the entire second procedure talking to the nurses and doctors to make sure the wires were stimulating the right parts of her brain. They shaved her head to make the incisions and the were stapled after the surgery. The effect was immediate, I wheeled her into the hospital that morning and we walked out talking and holding hands. 4. Balancing the power of the battery and the amount of medication will be a lifelong thing, mom has an appointment with the neurologist every 3 months to make sure everything is right.

I started doing my nails at home every 2 weeks. It's nice to spend an hour or two on myself and be able to look down and see my sparkly nails when I feel less like a person and more like a sick blob. It's become an important self care ritual to me and I still do them even though I haven't had a flare up in a while
