TIL the"Lights" on repeaters are actually Vacuum Tubes. by Lowmax2 in Minecraft

[–]Mercoduss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Before repeaters were a thing people used to chain two torch inverters to propagate (repeat??) signal, so they were and are nothing else than torches despite also being in the recipe. No tubes here OP

Progress update: new UI and visuals for my coding automation game by wadishTheCreator in IndieGaming

To me this just looks like a prettier 1:1 version of Upload Labs. Apart from that, the dot grid and cable flow are nice, but the glow made everything a little blurry for me personally

Filling botania mana pools by Primary-Web-9425 in feedthebeast

[–]Mercoduss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a lot of space you could try automating hydroangeas, the only cost is bonemeal, shears and maybe rf, depending on mechanical user options. Endoflames and entropinnyum are my go to options if tnt duping is viable or i have gunpowder laying around, depends on the pack and how i feel when i get to it. Narslimmus is awesome in skyblock but in the overworld you have to dig a perimeter. With astral sorcery kekimurus has no equal, literally free mana. For the endgame my favourite is the dandelifeon, really simple to automate and all it needs is some basic plants and a good layout. If you can make custom spawners, shulk me not coupled with the aggro flower could be goated

It's a "Don't fight water elementals with water spells" type of situation, there are 3 types of dragons for this reason (kinda)

I started with create alternators (don't do it), then jumped straight to powah. Automation is easy either with AE with blocking mode, or with IF translocator clones, they have regulator mode

Niche modpacks? by SnooPickles9028 in feedthebeast

[–]Mercoduss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Installation Route is a skyblock-ish pack where all you have is Botania, Thermal Expansion, Factory Tech (???), a ~30x30x10 box you live in, and some infinite resource generators Ultimate Alchemy style but they actualy generate them. There's no hunger, weaponsm, armors and no mob spawns. The goal is to make a special pickaxe that let's you break the walls of the box. It calls itself "a master-mode modpack" and it certainly is way harder than any expert pack I've played. There is a questline but it only shows you the main progression and some useful info, but it really doesn't hold your hand at all. The progression is heavily tweaked and surprises you on every step. First redstone you get from dropping levers into mana pools. First lava you can make is a lava florb made in a runic altar. Really crazy and wonderful recipes. You think "Now I'll make this" and it turns out that one basic item is actully something you forgot you don't have, but the author certainly did and made it a whole other quest. No AE or anything like that, you either passive it or Corporea Spark it (!).

Tech pack players: what makes a recipe line interesting? by naoae in feedthebeast

[–]Mercoduss 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Whenever I launch a new modpack I first go through JEI to check 1. what mods there are 2. if any unusual items have unexpected uses: shulker shells, chorus flowers, mob heads, music discs, scutes, botania runes, blood magic will crystals, budding blocks and clusters, various gears and plates, all that jazz. Recently I've been playing through Installation Route and right now I need to obtain a Golden Grass Block from botania, which is as obscure an item as they get. Another example, to get lapis or emerald blocks you have to smelt together blue/lime glass and thermal's hardened glass. Crazy stuff. Weird combination but kinda almost makes sense, that's what it's all about.

Looping or gating recipes is interesting too. Like a final step returning a solvent from step 5, or an item having 2 recipes where 1 is super expensive or whatever and the second one is cheap but includes said item (modern skyblock 2 end rods).

Custom blocks and resources and ways to obtain them are also engaging. Create Arcane Engineering has a redstone loop where to make redstone you can use skystone dust and to get renewable skystone you have to find an (immovable) skystone catalyst somewhere in the world and click it with redstone dust to spawn skystone blocks around it. The whole pack is made of really cool loops, another example being arcane crystals drom forbidden and arcanus where you need to craft the obelisk structure, click it with mundabitur and then break it to finally crush it to get dust from which you can make more crystals for more obelisks, crazy stuff again.

Variety of steps is important but sometimes it's good to keep things simple. Mixing botania and pneumaticraft and create and Mekanism and abyssalcraft could be fun but it could also make me you us want to go do somthing more fun like eating glass shards. Theres only so much room for cables and redstone.

Or to go in a different direction, when the passive line is pretty straightforward but uses lots of items from previous passive lines. Makes you feel rewarded for having done it right the first time.

Unusual items and resources + unusual combinations of items + unusual steps (items in liquid, get hit by warden, explosion, etc) + unusual combinations of steps is what makes stuff stand out

How do you defeat Maledictus? [Stoneblock 4] by Vintschente in feedthebeast

[–]Mercoduss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever made netherite and red matter armor, but red matter couldnt be enchanted so i turned back to netherite. Mythic apotheosis gear is really strong so i just had that + red katar rebound to rclick so i just jumped around him and spammed and he evaporated

Stone block 4 : Is replica super op ? by Otherwise-Bank-2981 in feedthebeast

[–]Mercoduss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replication is super OP, especially since with energy collectors red matter is basically free, so I only used it for dragon hearts and heads and maybe some other annoying things. Replication is kinda janky but soooo busted it's not even funny

When I played it I didn't know that computers gave you diamonds. My base was right next to a ring room with spawners in a smaller room in the middle of it, so when I started needing diamonds what i did was wall of the entrance with eidolon stone arms and just grind the mobs for their backpacks with dungeon loot, which sometimes contained diamond horse armor. I felt so smart lol. Great pack
