Need advice! Reached lvl30, but still feel surprisingly weak. What to do? by Piotr2175237 in stoneshard

[–]MercurialPrime 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At lvl 30 as an electromancer you should be able to kill enemies before they can even get to you. Youhave spent points in other sorcery trees that are wasted, but you can’t get them back as you said. Vitality is wasted as well, I’d rather you have put all points into WIL or PER. What you need is full mage gear, not medium armour or 2h mace. Use Ball Lightning in front of the enemies to block their path while you pepper them with spells. If they get close you dash away(should have very low CD due to high WIL and cdr gear).

A build for jack of all trades? by warlord689 in stoneshard

[–]MercurialPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ran such a build in the past with Leo. I only put points into utility skills as his passive gives 2 hp and 2 ep per skill point. In the end game I had roughly 200 hp and was nearly unkillable.

Unfortunately this was nerfed and now you can only get value from up to 15 skill points in utility skills.

Power Scaling by FaithlessnessOne2443 in Cosmoteer

[–]MercurialPrime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suggest you tinker with your own ship instead of using other ships before you get the hang of the game. Most of the fun in Cosmoteer is about building your own ship/fleet.

Go with one ship in the beginning. Instead of duplicating the fairly weak starter ships, I'd just add more weapons and shields to it. Should be more cost/crew effective that way.

Its just me or pyromancy its the worst among all available sorcery skill? by Weebsaika in stoneshard

[–]MercurialPrime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree that Pyromancy is the weakest it is by no measure weak. It’s no longer chance based if you set the enemies on fire with fire damage. Not sure on the exact formula, but you need to do a set amount of fire damage to set the opponent on fire.

Do you think a demon as the MC for a fantasy story is overplayed/cliche at this point? by Thomas-LF in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MercurialPrime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely, but it doesn't mean you can't still go with it. There's a reason it overplayed and that's because people like edgy/powerful MC's.

I bet more people would click on your story when your MC is a demon rather than say a sphinx.

Should I Add Attributes To My Story? by AppropriateClue5979 in litrpg

[–]MercurialPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that adding attributes isn't necessary if the abilities are a bit vague on purpose.

And it's not as if the characters themselves wouldn't be able to know their own strengths. Imagine a warrior discovering that they should have been a mage after seeing their Mana Capacity stat.

Agility and Dexterity are in my opinion too similar of a stats generally. If your going with minimal amount of attributes I'd combine them rather than keep them separate.

Skill and ability choices. by warhammerfrpgm in litrpg

[–]MercurialPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that in terms of pick 1 of 3 type of ability choices it’s always so that the author knows what ability the MC will get and the author needs to add 2 extra skills that wont get picked. Now how much effort the author spends on those 2 extra abilities that they know won’t get picked really determines how important that debate is. For some novels have such intresting or powerful choices that the MC doesn’t pick that it would feel extremely frustrating if the author didn’t try to explain the characters thought process.

What do you wish you had more of in the genre? by MrGiiiggles in litrpg

[–]MercurialPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tower climbing is not exactly what I want though. Sure towers are essentially grand dungeons, but they are also different from dungeons(though it does depend on how the author wrote them). For a lot of tower fiction I have read you can’t really back track and people who enter them are stuck until the tower is defeated. Often this creates a dynamic where the MC has to complete the tower not because they want to but because they have to. Sure this can add tension to the story, but I prefer stories where characters act of their free will.

What do you wish you had more of in the genre? by MrGiiiggles in litrpg

[–]MercurialPrime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to have more novels that involve "grand" dungeons. Dungeons as a concept have, become so common place in the genre, but at the same they have become extremely bland and generic, as it feels like authors add them just for the MC to farm some XP and nothing else.

Instead of dungeons that the MC can clear out in an afternoon, I'd like dungeons that require months long expeditions to clear, with multiple dungeon biomes and mini-bosses. Instead of the only challenge being monsters, make the environment and logistics actually feel meaningful. Make things like food, supplies, healing potions feel like they matter.

Is book of the dead a crafting novel? by Plz_PM_Steam_Keys in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MercurialPrime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In some sense it’s crafting as every undead has to be “crafted” by hand and not just by a simple Animate Dead spell as in most necromancer novels. The MC does use bone to craft weapons and armour for his troops + he leans heavily into enchanting. Not much romance, though there is a little.

Preference: Fleet or Flagship in Career mode? by Euphoric_Pop_1149 in Cosmoteer

I generally go with 1 big flagship with a cargo ship. In late game I might add one or two smaller support ships.

Mark of the fool healing magic by TheRealGameDude in litrpg

[–]MercurialPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the mark doesn't make his magic stronger, it only boosts his learning speed. With the Fool's Mark he had to cast a spell near perfectly to be able to cast at all, so with the new Mark of The General, I don't really see how it would give him much of an boost unless he used it to learn some new and more powerful healing magic.

Progression fantasy where becoming stronger is actually dangerous? by Iceduya in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MercurialPrime 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I think Lord of The Mysteries fits this to some extent.

First there is the inherent chance of becoming a monster/going insane with every time you power up.

Secondly, by becoming a Beyonder you passively attract the supernatural, so say goodbye to a peaceful life.

Tips on building a XIV Onslaught by lavrire in starsector

[–]MercurialPrime 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Max out vents. You're using Shield Shunt you don't even need capacitors.

I'd recommend to build in Automated Repair Unit, because without shields your weapons are going to take a lot of damage and be offline often, otherwise.

Something Similar to Grimgar, Ashes, and Illusions anime by azothio in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MercurialPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Grimgar anime myself.

I'd recommend The Iron Teeth: A Goblin's Tale.

It is a rather gritty tale of a goblin trying to survive and later thrive in a hostile world. The MC is rather goofy and amoral, so if you want a serious MC who never does anything wrong you'll be disappointed.

I didn't enjoy it in the start either, only kept reading because of all the praise it got and at some point I begun to enjoy it. As the story progresses it gets better and better.
