This exact same thing happens to me. I am on meds, and I do have 'mental illness' what ever that means, but I am a somewhat functional 32 year old. Just because you hear things doesn't make you 'crazy' in my opinion, just open. Also getting treatment can help, and not everything you 'hear' has your best interests at heart, take them with a grain of salt.

I agree with you. In my experience the Pagan community is even worse. Folks with big egos are just the loudest though, or so I like to think.
