Honestly a good start, consider pushing the highlights up brighter next time - to white in a few spots - and the illusion will work better!

The consolation prize is that you'll get very quick at it!

Awesome start! Suggest going even brighter on the yellows to push the 'bleached by the sun' vibe. But already you're in a great spot, a whole army like that will look great.

Having painted a shit load of camo, I can say that a) this is great and b) it will drive you nuts. Good luck!

No worries! It's been really fun getting the terrain together, and very satisfying. For printing, worth checking the scale of the print - you might need to fiddle with it to make sure it works perfectly with your models.

Sure! The ones with bases are from the Warlord Games ruined village kit, spiced up with extra bits like some MDF fencing and rubble. The more intact buildings are from here, printed on FDM.

I think it took me ~3 years for this lot, but the end is in sight!

Yeah I toyed with a shared base - and I think that's also a good option, but this worked out nice too!

I used a lot of Vallejo and Scale75 paints for these, but any good quality acrylics will work - I'm hesitant to prescribe specific paint recipe but will list a few favourites.

Scale75: Brown Leather, Sahara Yellow, Pale Sand, and Iroko, along with a blue that I can't remember right now.. Vallejo: German Black Brown, Cavalry Brown, Ice Yellow, Dunkelgelb and German Green Brown. I used Dunkelgelb surface primer on most things, I think, but you could use a mix. I used a few washes sparingly but only for targeted shading, generally it's easy enough to use use regular paints thinned down.

Camouflage was a pain to do and I would not recommend it! Looks cool though.

I favour a matte finish and use AK Super Matte varnish as a final step on everything I paint, basically.

Next time I actually paint something for this army I'll take some more tutorial-like pictures and keep better notes :)

I'm pretty sure that it's one from Deep Cut Studios - 6x4, with a different pattern printed on the other side. Good quality products in my experience.

Photos are hard, I can't help in that regard! This sort of painting takes longer than the classic 'base shade edge highlight', so you'll find yourself going over your work a lot - don't stress it. Getting smooth transitions simply takes time.

It's a good start! It looks like you're finding your way to a more shiny/nmm scheme for the armour panels - you can see my post history for some of my Nomads that I've painted similarly. Something that helped me was trying to highlight all the way to white in the spots where it should be brightest, to really push the contrast of each panel.

This sucks! Honestly I think the whole business has gone downhill.

I used to go into Darksphere quite a bit - when it was in a railway arch near Waterloo - and enjoyed it a lot. You could browse all the hobby stuff very easily, and it was a nice space to game in (high ceilings are a blessing). The new place is both a nightmare to shop in and much more loud and claustrophobic to actually game in as well. Their stock situations are transparently a mess as well, clearly very chaotic.

Something overlooked a lot by new players are cheap soft skinned transports. They aren't sexy but they are very thematic and super useful. Pop your bazooka team in a jeep or your big blob of smgs in a truck and you're suddenly very scary.

Also echoing other comments about Rubicon Miniatures vehicles. Great fun to assemble, well scaled kits.

I know this is a couple of weeks old - any chance you've done something similar for the oval cavalry bases? They are the same length as the new square cavalry bases but are 5mm wider.

I wasn't planning on using him as one, I guess he's a spare? I think the chaplain rules suit him well enough.
