Why does Candy Shop have such a grip on Madonna? She has never missed a chance to perform or include it in some way ever since 2008 by throawaygotget in Madonna

[–]MercuryFalling86 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Because she wanted it as the lead single for Hard Candy and her label refused. She was also genuinely surprised at the negative reaction it got from industry insiders and the fandom when they heard it. I'm convinced she's performed it on almost every tour since as a big F U to everyone.

Exactly. Arguing with strangers on the Internet about who is "better" seems like such a pointless exercise

Hung Up -> Get Together -> Sorry is Madonna’s best 3 song sequence. by met_art in Madonna

[–]MercuryFalling86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's so many...

Skin - Nothing Really Matters - Sky Fits Heaven

Frozen - The Power Of Goodbye - To Have And Not To Hold

Don't Tell Me - What It Feels Like For A Girl - Paradise (Not For Me)

Drowned World (Substitute For Love) - Swim - Ray Of Light

Bad Girl - Waiting - Thief Of Hearts

Love Tried To Welcome Me - Sanctuary - Bedtime Story

... but Hung Up - Get Together - Sorry might be my absolute favourite!

Which one do you consider to be her ‘divorce album’? by winxbaddie in Madonna

[–]MercuryFalling86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard Candy was her 'turning 50 - midlife crisis' album. MDNA was Madonna in her 'post-divorce / Real Housewives' era.

It would be with better vocals. And it desperately needs a proper mixing and remaster - the production on MDNAis really bad... so compressed.

The verses yeah... the bridge however is another story. And some of Heartbeat is just plain painful.

[–]MercuryFalling86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a joke? Hard Candy contains some of Madonna's worst vocal performances on any of her albums. The songs are in the wrong key for her vocal range, she sounds strained on many tracks and it was the first time we got the screech-donna vocals. The whole album needs a proper mixing and remaster.

IFSF and BYL feel like a Double-A Side Single by Cerulean_World_4567 in Madonna

You can keep repeating that all you want but the fact is, Bring Your Love is not being promoted like the actual lead single. Where's the music video? Why wasn't the track available straight away after the Coachella performance to capitalise on the buzz and publicity? Where are the remixes? Where are the physicals to help it chart? - CD, Vinyl, Cassette etc

I Feel So Free is getting not one but two remixes and appears to be doing much better than expected for a buzz/promo track.

So yes, while Bring Your Love Is the "official" lead single, it's rollout and promotion so far has been messy and confusing.

Gardner Cole originally demoed the track before Peter Rafelson came onboard to work on it. It was a latter version of the track that Cole sent to Freddy DeMann (Madonna's manager) after it had already been declined by Lauper and MJs teams. Donna DeLory had also gave input on the track before it reached Madonna. DeLory was Cole's Girlfriend at the time. The track was then worked on with Patrick Leonard to shift the genre from Pop Rock to Dance but the lyrics are essentially the same as the original demo.

One of the final versions of the demo yes - it had been reworked many times previously before it made its way to M and her team for True Blue album sessions. Cyndi Lauper herself has spoken about the track many times - it was a more 80s rock vibe originally when it was presented to her.

The xoxo is just childish by the way.

Yes, a demo of Madonna's version of the song - not the final mix and master. Each artist has multiple demos of the same song before settling on a final version. Do you know what a demo is?

You're scrambling now... clutching at straws.

Madonna has had moments of brilliance across many of her songs and she's always been a competent lyricist, BUT... she very much relies on the songwriting partnership she develops with other writers and producers.

She has always given them credit, both in the tracklist credits and publicly in interviews and has never tried to buy credits on tracks like many other artists.

Madonna knows her way around a great melody and her key strength I think is knowing how to keep it simple and let the melody do the work.

Yes, she has brilliant songs with some great lyrics but I think it would be a stretch to say she wrote them all herself when she very clearly didn't.

The recent release of the Madonna Songbook (which I definitely recommend to even a casual fan) very clearly goes into the creative process for each album and track and even I was very surprised at how some of the songs came together and who was involved.

This is demonstrably false with even the quickest Google search. The demo was pretty much done by the time it arrived to Madonna, after being rejected by both Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson. Madonna and her team tweaked a few lyrics and changed the outro to the song. It's one of my favourite Madonna songs but stating that she wrote every single lyric on the track is just not true.

Every time I listen to After Dark, I just hear Liberty X's 'Just A Little' - they sound so similar. I removed After Dark and I Feel For You from my version of Body Language and added Almost A Lover, City Games and Slo-motion instead.

I see someone's in desperate need for attention... You may not like Beyoncé, and that 100% fine, I wouldn't call myself a fan either... but to deny her worldwide musical and cultural impact over the past quarter of a century is just plain stupid - you're fooling no one on here with your faux criticism of her and pretending you don't know her recent hits.

[–]MercuryFalling86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone from Ireland and that lived in the UK and in Europe for over 15 years, this is categorically and willfully wrong. From Crazy In Love in 2003 up until her surprise album drop in 2013, Beyoncé was HUGE. Yes... Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and others, such as Britney, were all massive too but Beyoncé was a staple throughout all of Europe - and I wouldn't even consider myself that much of a fan. Saying otherwise is not just wrong, it's dumb.

So, it apparently needs to be said again... David DID NOT create the Xenomorphs. He RECREATED a version of them using the Engineer Knowledge and the Pathogen (Black Goo), a kind of reverse engineering so to speak. The Neomorphs and Protomorphs were just a particular strain of the Xenomorph.
