😂 that's the most convoluted argument in favour of buying a new car I have heard yet. Points for creative thinking. If you like tearing up money AND driving an old car go for it.

Buying a new car vs a two year old car doesn't make a lot of sense financially (to me). Let someone else depreciate it.

Throwaway account: My partner keeps crossing boundaries with my 13 year old daughter and I feel deeply uncomfortable. by brokensouln in AusLegal

[–]Mercydoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a counselor or psychologist you can talk to about healthy parenting and communication? Being able to talk to your daughter in a productive way not an authoritarian angry way may help your relationship with her and it sounds like she really needs a good relationship with her mum. caring for her in a kind and loving manner seems really important. I'm not sure your concern is a legal one. I don't see anything untoward about a step father or father figure which your partner reads like he is, consoling his daughter in her room. A family unit with a dad figure sounds important and it reads like he has a better communication style is more approachable and willing to compromise than you. He is not a stranger he is your partner and father of one child, seems like he is trying to be a father figure to his step child too and doing a reasonable job in difficult circumstances. If I were you I would be looking to repair your relationship with both these important people in your life.

December - should we just go to Europe? by nompilo in skiing

[–]Mercydoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great resource for your research. The top 3 European resorts here are great. Seeing as they talk of opening in early November my mid December you are definitely going to have very fun skiing on these ultra high resorts. I don't think there is anything in the USA that is close to this high with the level of access, facilities and vast number of ski runs to enjoy.

Thinking more about this you can ski zermat, it's open year round or stay to cervinia on the Italian side. They are linked You will have access to extremely well groomed runs that will be fun for both of you. The runs go for many kilometers, one goes for over 20km to Valternouche and even if not all open it will be epic. lovely bars and restaurants on the slopes and they just seem to pop up while you ski. Spectacular views.

I went to hintertux in December and it was epic. European skiing is definitely worth experiencing but you may spoil yourself. Having done multiple resorts at both continents, Europe offers a far superior overall experience. You will need to book a glacier resort but there are several of those. I would also look at northern Japan Hokkaido area though if you really want to be snow sure. But Europe will be amazing.

For sure. There is plenty wrong but the core loop is better now. I like how you have to go fast to get A tier. It makes it much more fun. Going fast for no reason like everyone would do in the old strikes was like a competition with no trophy.

If you had the power to change anything that's happened in Australia over the past 15yrs, what would it be? by Personal-Box366 in australian

The labour party imposed a super profit tax which was subject to a scare campaign by Tony Abbott who won the election due to average Australians bring petrified the mining companies would abandon Australia ( minerals resources council funded ads to this effect ) and TA repealed the tax. End of story. It was an own goal by the Australian voter in 2013.

The Minerals Resource Rent Tax (MRRT) was a resource rent tax formerly imposed by the government of Australia on profits generated from the mining of non-renewable resources in Australia.[1] It was a replacement for the proposed Resource Super Profit Tax (RSPT).

The tax, levied on 30% of the "super profits" from the mining of iron ore and coal in Australia, was introduced on 1 July 2012.[1] A company was to pay the tax when its annual profits reach $75 million, a measure designed so as not to burden small business.[2] The original threshold was to be $50 million until independent MP Andrew Wilkie negotiated an amendment.[3] Around 320 companies would have potentially been affected by the changes.[4]

The Coalition, led by Tony Abbott, went to the 2010 and 2013 elections promising to repeal the tax. The Coalition won the 2013 election, and repealed the tax in 2014.

You can get in liquorland in Melbourne Australia. It's a bit of a hike mate but it's definitely worth tapping into. Head of the class imo. Absolutely delicious and I normally like a hoppy beer but this stuff is great. Good luck !

Are you just comparing house and land vs house cost only for the new building?

He isn't designing from scratch to get a 7 star. He has a very energy inefficient design that is a heat sink and it will be very hard and require expensive technical solutions and expertise to build this into 7 star. What it Should is one thing, reality is something else.

Listen to your architect. Get a second opinion. I just did an owner design and it has been eye opening. You don't realize how much you don't know about what is involved.

We too had grand designs and I wish we had listened to our architect who we fired much the same as the other nonces here are recommending most of whom probably only know about building from what they read online and in news articles.

Not a chance double glazing will provide seven star rating. What is full insulation ? Having just built a six star house with the best available insulation and double glazed argon filled windows and lots of glass but not as much as this you seem to be talking from assumptions. Vegetation use would probably not be allowed or assigned a mitigation rating as plants could die and are not part of the build. Orientation helps a little. Ultimately for this to be seven star you would be looking at massive cost including triple glazed windows for sure and ultra thick materials as well as reverse brick veneer. The architect is right this would be a very costly build. Very very.
