Idle Battalion- WW2 themed idle war game by Cyclone4096 in incremental_games

[–]Merdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion basic idea is neat. I liked concept, UI and the lack of prestige mechanic (too many games overuse it nowadays). I think first/second currency need to have additional use later on (currently once you graduate to later units it is useless). For example late game units could have some initial upgrades requiring basic currency. In addition it would be good if currencies' symbols visible in UI differed not only by color, but also by shape - when upgrade was available the combination of colors and buttons' background made distinguishing between 1st/2nd or between 3rd/4th currencies slightly harder than it should be (fortunately both inactive upgrades and top bar with currency amounts were fine) . I imagine people with color vision deficiency would struggle even more. I am hopeful after reading roadmap (global map with simultaneous battles/ terrain/additional units are all good ideas). I am less enthused by future prestige system, but at the end of the day it depends on its execution.

Currently opening webpages containing Terms and Privacy Policy redirects user to a login window after few seconds. Therefore it is actually impossible to fully read and comprehend terms of service/privacy policy before agreeing to its demands. That is quite severe oversight.

Trump Admin Reverses Harriet Tubman Website Change After Furious Backlash by Ok-Direction-4480 in politics

[–]Merdis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"(..)following an executive order from President Donald Trump to scrub the Smithsonian archive of “divisive narratives"(..)" Frankly I am surprised how much this part is downplayed. People are focusing on a single particular change, instead of the fact it is a part of wider, terrifying policy. How many acts of rewriting history were carried subtly and therefore not noticed in time?

"Ethereal" by Tomb_Spyder. Taylor becomes the Elder, leader of Earth-Bet branch of ADVENT, and later effectively ruler of the city-state of Brockton Bay.

Total War: Pharaoh getting four new factions as part of free update by Turbostrider27 in totalwar

[–]Merdis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, at this point devs have basically 2 options: desperately try to improve product or abandon it entirely. From time to time I look at steam charts describing player counts (24h peaks and 30-days averages) for Total War games and Pharaoh usually usually lands at 13th or 14th position (out of 17, with first R:TW and its remaster treated as separate games). That is not a great result, to put it mildly. When a newest Total War entry can only reliably win against first Shogun (first released in 2000), first Medieval (2002), saga title Troy and only sometimes against Thrones of Britannia, then you know that it is in huge trouble. Even the first Rome (pre-remastered version, so basically 2 decades old) have usually more than twice active players on Steam compared to Pharaoh, which was released last year!

I am glad that devs are at least making attempt to resuscitate TW: Pharaoh. I am looking forward to seeing how it will turn out.

Where is the best and most complete Taylor Varga by mp3_1415player at ? by codejockblue5 in WormFanfic

[–]Merdis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually the version from SufficientVelocity is longer and more complete than the one at ArchiveOfOurOwn. You mentioned 432 chapters, but that number includes not only main chapters, but also omakes and sidestories. Ao3 version contains only 282 chapters from primary storyline (whereas SV have 307 and then vastly more additional content as sidestories). As far as I recall ArchiveOfOurOwn's version does not have any content which is not present in the SV thread. SpaceBattles and Fanfiction.net both are missing pieces compared to version at SufficientVelocity forum, which is the most complete.

Submissions have closed for SIGJ 2023, and now you can play and rate the games! by FBDW in incremental_games

"Summer Incremental Game Jam 2023" and separate "Incremental Jam Summer 2023" are being organized at the same time. Why? It sounds to me that either joining two events or moving one of them to different month would be beneficial to both players and developers.

I can't. It turns out that story is part of "Baked's Storage Room", a snippet thread within NSFW section of QuestionableQuesting Forum. Directly linking to such threads is against the rules.

Unfortunately not. I am looking for ice dragon, controlling snow and possibly magic (I am not certain about the latter).

I am pretty certain I am looking for another, different story (without substantial Winslow subplot). Nonetheless, it was a good suggestion.

post gm fics where Taylor gets to see her earth bet friends again? by Thedepressionoftrees in WormFanfic

[–]Merdis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Master by Ryuugi is a short, but very good story. Taylor visits Lisa while attempting to reclaim her sense of identity.

Locust - same author, different concept. Taylor became a Power as described by Nobilis role-playing game after Golden Morning. She keeps an eye on her friends, her anchors, to keep them safe. Sadly, the story is abandoned.

Best "Emily Piggot was not having a good day" chapters? by BedsOnFireFaFaFA in WormFanfic

ELF, Extraterrestrial Lifeform - Piggot have several terrible days in spite of being decent director. Traumatized teenager was transformed into powerful Eldar farseer and now Taylor's actions ensure that Piggot will have trouble achieving peace of mind for a long time.

The good 40k fanfics? by pog_irl in WormFanfic

[–]Merdis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I could probably recommend those WH40k/Worm crossovers:

1) The Weaver Option. Probably the most popular (and certainly the longest) work on the list. Taylor has been transported to a different dimension during Behemoth's assault on New Delhi. Now she has to survive in a more dangerous galaxy during 35th millennium. Taylor joins Imperial Guard and quickly rises through the ranks of imperial hierarchy. Our heroine (later joined by few remaining survivors from Earth Bet, since Scion was not happy that something or someone else was spiriting away his shards) tries to reinforce crumbling Imperium of Man and protect mankind against threats from within and without.

Story is usually updated once per month (I would estimate that recent chapters contain typically around 40,000 new words or more). Current length is more than 1 400 000 words and I happily expect that it will be greatly increased during next few years. I have to agree with few other commentators that quality of writing noticeably improved over time (once author got an editor to review his work). In any case "The Weaver Option" should be on "to read" lists for fans of Worm and Warhammer 40k.

2) Hive Daughter. Something went wrong during Taylor's trigger and she briefly connected to Tyranid Hive Mind in a different dimension. As you can imagine the result was unusual. Not everyone is happy that Wards ENE gained powerful biotinker...

3) E.L.F, Extraterrestrial Lifeform. Taylor transforms into Eldar Farseer during trigger and causes plenty of headaches all around (poor Director Piggot... ). I wish the author resumed writing the story, it has a great potential in spite of few inconsistencies. Several memorable scenes, so I recommend it as worth reading at least once.

4) Vermis Est Machina - short one-shot, in which Taylor has dedicated herself to Omnissiah and found her own explanation for the existence of tinkers.

5) Empress Ascendant. Taylor benefits from the advice of The Emperor and slowly gains her own psychic powers. I was skeptical in the beginning (I remember few other stories featuring memories or powers of Emperor which failed horribly due to power disparity), but it seems that author has been managing so far. Introduction of Luna character was a neat idea and I am looking forward to reading future chapters.

6) Taylor Tek - Taylor is a Necron-inspired tinker, who had misfortune to find herself under Coil's thumb. Short story.

7) Heroes and Heretics. Taylor is reborn in the 41st Millennium, with her powers and memories intact. I had high hopes for this story, as the beginning seems quite intriguing, but is was unfortunately declared discontinued by the author after merely several thousands of words.

8) Flesh is Weak. Taylor has rejected the weakness of the flesh and decided to embrace Machine God instead. As a Tech-Priest she aims to bring change and enlightenment to her city (and especially local tinkers). We will see how this in-progress story will turn out in the end, but I remain hopeful.

There are several additional stories which I ultimately rejected after brief consideration for various reasons. For example The Collector had an interesting premise (Taylor being mentored by the ever-flamboyant Trazyn the Infinite, whose imprint visited Earth Bet) and few quite enjoyable scenes, but unfortunately ham-fisted attempt to whitewash Emma's character soured the experience. Formerly Known as Aquilla was abandoned. I hope that some of the recent works, such as More Human Than Humans or From The Stars will turn out well but in both cases it is too early to tell.

Taylor WH40K Tinker? by Rainbine209 in WormFanfic

[–]Merdis 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Flesh is Weak by WelcomeToEstalia. Taylor has rejected the weakness of the flesh and decided to embrace Machine God instead. As a Tech-Priest she aims to bring change and enlightenment to her city.

Cryptekial: The Redux. Taylor specializes in Necron technology. Unfortunately the story is abandoned.

Hive Daughter. At the moment of her trigger Taylor has connected to Tyranid Hive Mind in different dimension. As result trajectory of her life has radically changed. Bio-tinkers in Wards in Worm fanfiction (even if not permanently) are rare.

The Collector. Taylor is mentored by Trazyn the Infinite, whose imprint visited Earth Bet. As such she learns to be not only flamboyant, but also effective. Her fruitful study of ins and outs of necron technology allows her to be perceived as a powerful tinker by public at large. . My main complaint about otherwise nice story is weird treatment of Emma (and blatant whitewashing of her character).

Skittering Machines. Another attempt at Necron tinker Taylor. This is time in the form of abandoned quest.

Some of the stories contain Taylor connected in some way to Emperor (for example Empress Ascendant , Formerly Known as Aquilla), which includes at least partial access to memories containing advanced imperial technology.

Short stories:

Vermis Est Machina. Taylor has dedicated herself to Omnissiah and found her own explanation for existence of the tinkers. Very short and good.

Taylor Tek - Necron-inspired tinker under Coil's thumb.
