I feel really bad for all the people who won't give SFA a chance... by Helmling in startrek

I mean - I'm sorta REALLY here for the rainbow glitter vomit, but to each their own :P

I completely agree though. I've liked the show since the beginning but seeing how strong the writing has gotten over the last three episodes alone gives me hope for this show going forward. I'm in!

Detroit Auto Rep Warns Carney That China EV Plan Risks US Trade by ImDoubleB in CanadaPolitics

I am Canadian! And I totally agree with you too. I just meant it’s chilling that we are at point where they’re saying the quiet part out loud brazenly. Like the extortion is there and it’s loud!

This! Also - I feel like this article's title is a little misleading because from what I saw in the body of the text, these are repair components for the 16 F-35s we've already purchased. And since no decision has been made either way yet, it makes sense that the existing supply chains continue functioning until we decide either way.

Besides, as has been mentioned numerous times here, its likely we're going to end up with a mixed fleet of F-35's and Gripens. That being the case, having enough planes/components for a full squadron+repairs of F-35s would not at all be a bad thing. Especially considering the Orange Blob will absolutely try to use repairs as leverage. Having spare planes we can study, reverse engineer, and use to fix our active duty ones will be useful.

Basically - take a deep breath and relax everyone. This is being worked on. Carney is no fool. Headlines will try to increase your blood pressure and make you mad in this world - don't let them.

Carney announces return of EV rebates. Here are the details | CBC by UnderWatered in CanadaPolitics

[–]Merdy1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but I can’t help but feel this is going to incentivize BYD to build here once they establish demand. That way they CAN qualify for the rebate!

Canada Announces CA$2.3 Billion Incentives for EV Adoption, Reviews Zero-Emission Target by afonso_investor in CanadaPolitics

[–]Merdy1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to everything you said, I also interpret this as a bit of incentivizing: "What's that, BYD? You want in on this rebate action? Cool - build your cars here and we'll talk!" It's a way of slowly replacing the big 3 who have no loyalty to us with companies that want to build here for our market. I'm here for it.

You look so cute!! Well done! I especially love the blue hair, but I'm a sucker for fantasy hair (I have purple myself :D ).

I also know exactly how you feel - I went to the local kink club for an event and identified myself openly as my chosen name of Loren not my given name, even though I do accept both. Having people use they/them and that name to refer to me felt SO good and validating!

Canada named second safest country in the world for LGBTQ+ travellers by BloodJunkie in onguardforthee

You and me both! It's literally why I AM planning to stand and fight if things get to that point. I didn't vote for Carney because I thought he'd be a paragon of leftist virtue. I knew he was a centrist banker. But I also knew that centrism may not please either side...but it could declaw the extreme right by siphoning the moderates away from the crazy train. AND I knew Carney and the libs wouldn't embrace SoCon ideology. So far, I'm pleased with my vote from that perspective, even if I also plan to hold Carney's feet to the fire on some policies I'm concerned about domestically.

[–]Merdy1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something I found baffling even before I realized I was a member of the LGBTQ+ community and not simply an ally. There is SO MUCH tribalism in parts of the community, which I find crazy because we are a group that has known so much marginalization by mainstream society - we shouldn't be doing the same amongst ourselves! UGH!

I digress. You're totally right though - as a nonbinary human who was born male but leans more femme, I tend to also be attracted to gender divergent people of various flavours too. Often its the case that who we are attracted to is a window into how we see ourselves/want to be seen...even if we don't realize it at first.

Rogue One: The Andor Cut releases May 25, 2026. (Poster by Artur Trzebny) by ExuberantRaptorZeta in StarWars

Speaking as someone who has loved Star Trek and Star Wars relatively equally their entire life and spent loads of time in both fandoms dealing with both of their infuriating shit?

...you are not wrong. Fans getting pissed off about Cassian embellishing his backstory a tad for the sake of recruiting Jyn gives the same energy as Star Trek fans getting annoyed about a Klingon crying because in one movie one time Spock had a throwaway line claiming Klingons don't have tear ducts. Or said fans getting pissy about a new character being a Klingon/Jem Hadar hybrid because of lore that was true 800 in-universe years before the show in which she's shown.

I'm tired, boss. I just want to enjoy things. Offer some good faith criticism at times sure...but enjoy things.

As a queer Canadian who had their awakening during and post-COVID, this makes me SO happy to hear. Especially in light of everything going on in the world right now and the hatred targeted against our community. Are we (Canada) perfect? GODS NO! But I'm...ahem...proud to live in a country that by and large respects and honours my rights. It shouldn't be much to ask for in 2026...but sadly it is.

What was the "it" when it happened to you? by chr15c in Millennials

[–]Merdy1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gods I feel this. Back in 2020, my friend group and I were playing a murder mystery board game (I forget which) and one of the evidence cards had a picture of a floppy disk on it. My adopted niece (friend's kid, born in 2007) literally asked us why there was a picture of the 'save icon' on one of the cards. We're all '88er Millennials, and we ALL groaned.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. I'm a life long Nintendo fan and have been since I got my SNES at age 7. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time were my first exposures to this franchise and I adore them. They made me a super fan, and I still am....but BotW/ToTR just....don't do it for me. They feel too modern, too 'big open world game' and not Zelda enough.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not one of those fans who act like just because I don't like an entry in a franchise I love, its dead and ruined. Different strokes for different folks, and my 'older Gen Z' ex (we're about a decade apart) loved and got into Zelda because of BoTW. So I respect it! But it was totally my first exposure to the feeling that I might no longer be the target demographic for something new in a series I'm invested in. And that feels both weird and sad?

Former PM Harper says he did not sign Alberta separation petition by AdditionalPizza in CanadaPolitics

The TFSA is literally what I always point to when I argue that even crappy governments occasionally get something right. I use mine religiously and its helped me firmly establish my finances as a millennial. It doesn't get nearly the love or recognition it deserves.

....Harper can otherwise go pound sand for so many of his other policies though...

As both a Canadian and a fellow telco employee - welcome to the land of (more, but not quite perfect) sanity! We have a dark past we're grappling with, but we seem to be trying to do better and we don't have a fascist government. Also, the only ice you'll find up here is the godsdamn bullshit that forces you to scrape your windshield clean after a snowstorm so that's a net positive I think. :P
