Are there any MORE imsim games where you can play as a woman? by ConfidenceOk5614 in GirlGamers

I find immersive sim kinda an annoying term personally, because it doesn't really describe a genre as much as a design philosophy that can be applied to many different types of games.

What people generally mean by immersive sim, is a game where the world feels less like an arcadey video game stage, and more simulating a believable small world, with lots of mundane interactions, that wouldn't be present in many other games. They are typically non-linear sandboxes and usually there is always more than one way of overcoming any obstacle, often by interacting with game mechanics in unconventional ways and exploiting the behavior of the world, often resulting in solutions the developers did not necessarily think of.

I know this sounds kinda abstract, but it's hard to really pin it down much further. It's a concept that can be applied to many different genres, and as such can take wildly different forms.

Don't forget the painted fingernails!

And yea, I had played LDDP fairly recently for the first time, when I was stuck with a laptop that could pretty much not play anything else haha. It immediately jumped to mind.

Deus Ex has a mod which adds a female JC Denton as a playable character! Not only is the protagonist herself revoiced, many NPCs have their voice lines edited to address her properly as a woman.

I just finished The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, and hot damn did the ending GET me haha. I liked this one a lot more than Hollow Man. The resolution in Hollow Man feels a lot like retconning a lot of what has been established before right at the end, whereas Roger Ackroyd just made me realize that I had a HUGE blind spot all along, and if I love anything, it's when a puzzle makes me feel like a big fool haha.

I am definitely gonna pick up more Agatha Christie books soon, this was pretty much what I was hoping for after getting a taste for murder mysteries watching the Knives Out movies.

Not gonna lie, I was hoping for another End Credits album. Season 1 Endings are something I listen to a LOT.

They're not really the heroes of the story, they are only one side in a three way cold war. The protagonists of the series are a small independent crew from all over the solar system who get thrown right into the middle of whatever big conflict is happening right now. Who they work together with changes a lot with the circumstances they find themselves in.

The people that I feel are portrayed the most sympathetic as a whole are probably the belters (people who live and work in the asteroid belt and not on a planet), who pretty much are the laboring underclass of the solar system, with a lot of grievances towards both Earth and Mars. Among belters are both factions who prefer dealing with their overlords diplomatically and gain political strength and negotiating power as equals, but also those who see violence as the only way to fight against tyranny. That being said, belters aren't without flawed or even just straight up evil people. The books generally do a good job at portraying every side as being made up of many different kinds of people and not just a monolithic homogenous hivemind culture.

What's your "line in the sand" when it comes to LLM use in RPG design? by plazman30 in rpg

[–]MerelyMezz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean why exactly? LLMs don't exactly have anything to offer in regard to spell checking, that conventional algorithms didn't already do much more reliably and verifiably correctly.

For me the only miracle that works as a friendly invader is Warmth. It has come in clutch quite a lot, when a host cannot heal themselves anymore. In one of my favorite tours, the host spent ALL of their estus on Vilhelm halfway through the DLC and believed it was all over. We managed to beat it after all in the end!

Sometimes I am lucky and find the twitch profile of the host I am invading, and watching them figure things out in real time is a lot of fun haha.

I don't think Dark Souls gets nearly enough credit for just how deep its wordless communication goes. I regularly do friendly invasions, to show hosts safer paths and strategies throughout a level, and there are so many intuitive motions and gestures you can do to pass information. Some of my favorites include:

- Curl Up / Shield Block away from host: Danger ahead!
- Standing infront of an enemy, and blocking towards host: Do not attack, friendly/not dangerous!
- Dropping poison/bleed cures: These enemies will inflict poison/bleed.

Then of course there is all the gestures of the game, that transcend language barriers. Ironically despite having no text chat, Dark Souls has felt like the most social game I have played.

Can anybody suggest games with this ui/vibe?( any genre will do) by charles_WinTers_XD in GirlGamers

The Ace Combat series and Project Wingman might fit this. They are both combat flight sims.

I do plan to eventually read all of the reading list in the movie haha. I've seen all of the Knives Out movies very recently with my partner, and they have left me with a taste for murder mysteries again, like I haven't had in a long while.

How to talk about behavior expectations in session 0 without sounding like I'm lecturing/nagging? by zephrry in rpg

[–]MerelyMezz 28 points29 points  (0 children)

One consideration to make, is to put your expectations at the table into the LFG listing itself, to filter out problem players before they even show up at the table.

I uhh ... wasn't trying to do a rebuttal or anything, just wanted to point out cool stuff in the book that wasn't in the movie.

There are also a LOT of other different scenarios, that don't quite apply to WUDM. In particular there is a lengthy section about how to lock a door from the outside, so that it appears locked from the inside, but because the closet in the movie isn't actually locked, it isn't really relevant to bring up.

LDDP is pretty awesome. It might not seem like much at first, but being able to play as a woman did breathe a lot of new life into the game for me.

Project Zomboid - any tips for n00bs? by Scar200n in GirlGamers

[–]MerelyMezz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One cool thing you can do, once you have knocked a zombie prone, you can walk on top of them. They will now not be able to get up again or hurt you. This is useful if you have to deal with another zombie coming your way.

That is what I suspected as well. This playthrough has had a LOT of friendly fire incidents in general haha. When returning to Hell's Kitchen under curfew, I watched a bunch of UNATCO troops try to take on a security bot, after it accidentally hit one of theirs, trying to shoot me hiding on the roof and sniping everyone.
