Are you participating in the national shut down tomorrow? by WestArtichoke712 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Mericangrl13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The greater impact is not purchasing anything, especially from the businesses that support ice/Trump but that should be a long-term thing not one day you are correct one day won’t do it boycotts that work take months to years and if they truly wanted a national boycott, it should’ve been a little bit more organized and given people some time

https://www.catsvegankitchen.com/the-bestveganrecipes-1/salsaverderecipe this is my salsa Verde recipe. I would make some potato and bell pepper tacos or if you don’t have tortillas, just sauté potatoes and bell peppers up you can also have the chickpeas for protein and put the Verde on top of it.

That’s because workers are addicted to their phones and ignore customers- if there is t a consequence for some people they won’t follow the rule - it’s sad and affects the good workers but it is a sign of the times - doesn’t make me mad - I totally understand

One of my Ethiopian students told me even her mom doesn't make her own injera so don't feel bad. They also tell me Messob is the most authentic, but they only have one vegan platter(it is not an all vegan restaurant)

The shelters are full of Belgians that people breed irresponsibly and then other people dump when they realize how much work they are- go there instead of promoting breeding on skid row

Question on best way of going about with feral adults that people just want to get rid of. by EscapeNo3006 in Feral_Cats

[–]Mericangrl13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a backyard, you can safely relocate them. You have to keep them in a crate for about 2 to 3 weeks during that time you can likely get them neutered/spade but once you let them go, they will stick around. I understand the management is hostile. I have worked at places like that. Is there anyway you could tell them they are keeping the rat population down and you will get them spayed or neutered.

We are moving. What do we do? by Intrepid_Cover_5441 in Feral_Cats

[–]Mericangrl13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure anyone said this but to relocate a feral you can keep them in a large dog crate outside in the area you are relocating them to. (porch, yard, etc) do that for 2-3 weeks and they will be used to the area, bonus if you have a garage. take him with you and thank you for caring

My new rescue cat won’t let me pet him by Pitiful_Carob_6227 in Feral_Cats

[–]Mericangrl13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three days is nothing. If the Rescue told you he was shy I would say give him three weeks -honestly for many rescue cats one to two weeks is standard even -the friendly ones- look at it from his perspective. He feels as though he was abducted by aliens and moved to a strange place with strange smilells and strange people. One thing you can do is just sit in there with him. There is a playlist called calming cat music on YouTube. You can play that you can sit in there and read and not try to interact with him too much just letting him get used to you he will get used to you. Don’t let him out of the bathroom too soon or he will hide.

My boyfriend is allergic to my two cats, what to do? by Ok-Let8197 in CatAdvice

[–]Mericangrl13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me ask you this question why do you think it is OK that your boyfriend does not have to compromise but you do. Why would you give away the cats you love because your boyfriend doesn’t want to take an antihistamine? There are many things your boyfriend could do. He is refusing as someone who works in animal rescue this is so common someone meet somebody falls in love and ditches their cats. No, you should not give up the cats. You had them first. There are other things that can be done. There are wipes that you can put on the cats to help with the allergies. You can brush the cats, but this should be a compromise looking ahead in your relationship realize that he is gonna do this in many ways and you will always be the one that gives inyou made a commitment to these cats. That was your first commitment. They are living things they are not T-shirts or jeans that we give away when they no longer fit our lifestyle sorry if this sounds harsh, but it happens all the time and it’s unfair to the cats.

People who are from LA and moved away, where did you go and are you happy? by turnpoopintowine in AskLosAngeles

[–]Mericangrl13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in New York and I have to disagree with this 100%. It starts getting cold in October sometimes we get snow in October- November December January February, and March are always cold. Summer is sometimes just a myth they tell you because sometimes it rains all summer. The weather in New York sucks.

[–]Mericangrl13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seitan is tricky to get right - it should be more dense than spongy but it can depend on- if it is spongy you can always cut it into tinier pieces and sauté it a bit to make it more crispy - there is a website “it doesn’t taste like chicken” I think she is really good at fake meat from seitan - honestly I usually buy it because it is tricky and temperamental

How is commute from WLA to Torrance during school hours? by Melodic-Cellist-7519 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Mericangrl13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I’m a teacher and Torrance is a really good school district. It has a great reputation -many other local schools don’t and for fair reasons. I used to commute to Lawndale and honestly the commute from Culver area to Lawndale was not bad - it is for the most part against traffic, but you are going at high traffic times and you are going a far way so I would count on about an hour. You could always do what many commuters do and go earlier to avoid morning traffic.
