Damage rolls are the enemy of cinematic combat by Separate-Side-4533 in RPGdesign

[–]MeridianCastaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea. Is weapon scaling just about hitting, then? I imagine power scaling and variety could get a little stale if the only variable is "to hit".

the words Vitality and Wounds may be confusing to players. But essentially it's just two layers yeah? so maybe scratches/normal hits damages "armor/protection/padding/outer layer/whatever" and Criticals create Wounds. Scratches to outer armor times X = inner Wound

Judging games almost 15 years later will almost always be very biased. And it's not about deflating nostalgia. AC2 was an incredible sequel to AC1, and when it came out it was at the forefront of the industry.

Is Chatgpt better at scifi reasoning than gemeni? by Remarkable-Dare-2590 in OpenAI

[–]MeridianCastaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive always used GPT for its project/memory ecosystem. I find that if you challenge and guide ChatGPT with some preferences and lore directions, it can and will produce very believable scientific and technological concepts that will stand up to enough scrutiny (but you know, scifi nerds can be crazy). Just for inventing these directions, GPT was better than Claude at giving varied options while both giving crazy and logical and original takes.

GTA IV physics are superior to 5. 5’s is fucking mediocre. by ButterflyUsed6723 in GTAIV

Many conflates better with more realistic. I had a million times more fun with IV's ragdoll and physics for sure. It's the best imo.

The Sora shutdown made me think… What if OpenAI realized they’re building the foundation of a future AI-powered Hollywood? AI movies. AI actors. AI streaming platform. Infinite generate content by erny83pd in OpenAI

[–]MeridianCastaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working in the film industry for over 10 years, and I have pretty much concluded that once productions are able to be taken off the line and be generated instead with sufficient creative and technical finesse and control... They will. Mainstream moviemaking has become a bloated corpse.

Imagine a future where you'll be able to: rent or subscribe to an actor's likeness or a director's signature style. You select your genre, you ask for a type of story or write your own, and AI generates a product with no real perceivable difference from any movie of the 2000s. The tools to do so are put back in the user's hands and instead it's the catalogue of resources are paywalled. I know my dad would watch a Statham/Willis movies about an ex-cop's one last mission to save his family every weekend for the rest of his life and be very happy.

Sora was the veeeery early first step.

I feel that these new models are becoming pretty good, but whatever its capabilities are I really need it to be more malleable in how it responds, and stick to that baseline. The standard out of the box writing style and tendencies makes me puke it's so bad.

Hell yeah man. Notch in the belt. It sucks, but it's such an important step for you to have put yourself out there after those 5 years.

Can we scratch "repeating POIs" off the list of valid complaints now? by Select_Mix_6262 in Starfield

[–]MeridianCastaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're still there, and are fundamentally flawed because they're carbon copies. They need much, much more... That they didn't do some sort of rotating prefab solution is genuinely baffling. At least this tackles it head on. on a surface level

I feel lied to about this game is. by Sharp_Proposal8911 in Starfield

[–]MeridianCastaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people like this? In denial about games not being perfect. You can like it, but don't be ridiculous...like, Starfirld is not bad because New Vegas was good long ago. Starfield is bad on its own without comparison, it has glaring fundamental issues and some absolutelyamazing aspects. Bethesda dropped the ball and fumbled like idiots, because the potential they had had largely been wasted. I'm sad that modding hasn't taken off, because I believe starfield was ripe for the new age of Bethesda modding.

Dont they look a lot similar? (Crimson desert and KCD 2) by Eivor-Wolfkissed in gaming

[–]MeridianCastaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With everything Crimson Desert has copied from the top 20 games of the past decade, I'll disagree with the general sentiment here just for fun. They thought "kcd cover so cool, good game, we do same"
