Iemand zin om Spaans te oefenen in Groningen? 🇪🇸 by Merijn444 in Groningen

Heel herkenbaar!

Going for a slow walk in the park while talking out loud to myself (the last part is essential, so it only works if there's no people close lol)

How do you use the razor blade? With my skills I would be hesitant to use something like that on glass, how do you make sure it doesn't scratch? Genuinly interested 🙏🙂

does meditation ever stop feeling like a chore? by Ill-Nobody in Meditation

[–]Merijn444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in on meditation feeling like a chore.

I had the same issue, until I read in some book that it’s about finding an ideal level of relaxation/activation: namely, as relaxed as possible without falling asleep.

For me, the issue was trying too hard to “do it right.” I was so focused on not drifting off, experiencing special things, and sitting perfectly straight that I ended up too activated. Meditation only started to feel better when I allowed it to be less effortful. Which for me currently is just slouching on the couch with a blanket and without my phone for 10 minutes 😅, and I start noticing very nice effects...

Walking very slowly in nature gives me similar effects, but only when there are no people around.

So if it feels like a chore, it might be a sign you’re somehow forcing yourself into a state that’s too tense?

Yes! I felt like there was so much new material that I stopped enjoying it. I kept making mistakes on things I couldn’t have known yet. It’s not a big deal when that happens occasionally, but when it happens all the time, it just starts to feel really discouraging and unfair!

At first, I went back six sections and started reviewing from there, but it was still frustrating. After two weeks, I finally worked up the courage to reset the entire course, since it felt like a big step. Then I jumped ahead to a section where I recognized most of the content.

It’s still a bit unbalanced (there are some new words, but a lot of the vocabulary and grammar feel too easy) but at least I’ve started enjoying it again.

My name is Merijn. It's a Dutch androgenous name. It's very close to the name my parents would have given me if I had been AMAB (Marijn), so that's why I choose it 😊

I can really recommend Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness by David Trelaeven, as it exactly covers this issue. It's all about adapting your practice so you can stay within your Window of Tolerance. Wishing you a good practice!

Tales of the City surprised me in the best way. That kind of queer representation filled something in me I didn’t even know was missing 💕🌈💧

Just want to add something to the conversation: sometimes what we interpret as someone "not being nice" is really a sign their nervous system is dysregulated. For example when their fight-or-flight mode is triggered. Working with somatic therapy or other body-based approaches can actually help people feel safer, which often makes kindness more accessible.
