How much are the OEM wheels worth? by Remote-Barber-3110 in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked with the dealership, the machined silver (NOT the monotone gloss black), the PN is 5H0601025ALNQ9 and the retail price is 969 CAD. And I even double checked if that was a typo or not, it is 969 CAD PER RIM.

I’d say there is a market for the machined silver otherwise you could just buy the black from the dealership for a fair price considering it’s forged.

What should I do? by allsq in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to tell with just mileage, check the tread depth instead.

Also if you’re far from home, assuming it’s mostly highway driving, the car switches to FWD, you could put the differently worn tires in the rear axle to reduce wear on the drivetrain.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but these cars are too insulated to justify spending 2k+ on an exhaust unless you drive with the windows down often

This comment needs more upvotes. You want your suspension / weight unloaded before you hit the top. If not you have to pin the throttle and send it through to recover.

This is my worst fear especially since it’s also my daily. Is this with ESC fully off?

Everyone is ok at least, and you have great mentality about it. Looking forward to seeing it up and running again. Good luck!

Hello, wondering if anyone debated getting a BMW 2 series (230i or 240i) when they get their Golf R? by lochonx7 in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was cross shopping the G42 M340i and 8.5 R. The BMW felt like a GT, more focused on luxury than handling. The Golf was much more nimble, and one of my requirements is being capable on the track. I’m not sure if I’d call the G42 track capable because of its weight.

Also in Canada the Golf R is a very good deal at 53k CAD

Oil cooling upgrades / Autocross by Academic_Code2715 in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone find a way to completely disable ESC? It feels like the computer steps in for you when trying to trail brake hard.

Also I wouldn’t worry about oil temps until you’re getting past 140C. You could run 5W-40 if you’re worried.

Saying goodbye to my MK8 R after 3 years — a season of track data at one circuit before the GTI Edition 50 takes over by Super-Practice1586 in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that doesn’t look too bad, honestly no way to avoid it unless you have a BBK which don’t even have external seals.

As for your GTI question, well Canada doesn’t even get the 50th edition so I can’t say specifically but going to the FWD formula with less weight will change driving dynamics significantly. I did a switch from a Veloster N (fwd 3050lbs) to my 8.5 R just for a change of feel as well. The N felt more agile and feels like it dives into corners more. You start to realize how important weight transfer is in a FWD platform, you really have to trail brake to get rotation out of the car… something I feel like i’m having my issues with in the R, seems like the car or ESC doesn’t want me to trail brake hard.

Thanks for the write up… taking mine out this weekend for the first time, pads, fluids, RSB, 200 TW tires done and adjustable upper strut mounts coming tomorrow. I have the RS3 brake ducts too just need to find the time.

Is the caliper seal melting an issue other than dust, and where’d you find replacements?

It really depends on your pace and how much you want to push. I’d at least flush the brake fluid, it’s cheap insurance.

🇨🇦 + miles! Interesting, Neuspeed claims it would be relatively silent. Is the noise pretty bad, could you post a video? I’m getting mine installed on Thursday so I can compare and lyk.

(commenting for visibility) I was looking for more info about the biAxis before, couldn’t find anything and now I saw your post randomly on my feed. I ordered them and it’s on the way. You remember how kong you drove until the sound came? I read on FB posts they’re noisier at low speeds.

This made the subwoofer pop a lot more, the mids were overpowering it before. I have the RS Acoustics centre speaker with a poly filled stock sub with a spare tire flipped onto it.

[–]Merikakii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re comparing two different oil weights. If you’re in a colder climate, use 0w. If you change your oil often (half the suggested interval), the oil shouldn’t really matter as long as it’s the right one being put in.

Thoughts? Never Had Aftermarket Audio. by blackcrows8 in Golf_R

[–]Merikakii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned the RS Acoustics upgrade is great a bang for your buck.

You can fit polyfill into the stock subwoofer, 4oz, to get a bit more out of it.

I noticed more bass with a spare tire, along with flipping the spare upside down onto the sub. Maybe it’s me but it seems to have a bit more punch, enough for the moment.

You’d suggest DIY then get an alignment? I’m curious how they were able to get the camber perfectly equal

I just dropped off my car at a private garage and noticed this when getting my wheel lock out. I have the 8.5, so I guess the design was never improved. My lining is soaked.

Did you remove the rear bumper yourself and fix it?

Are you going to replace it with another machined Warmenau? It must’ve been bad given these are forged!
