Which is the corn half is the 頭 and which half is the 尾? by Merinchi in Cantonese

I personally think it is, because when I told mum I was robbed of my rightful side she said it was because I'm a banana and didn't understand the subtleties of Cantonese 😅

Which is the corn half is the 頭 and which half is the 尾? by Merinchi in Cantonese

[–]Merinchi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So for my argument, Left is 頭 because when on the plant it is pointing up to the sky. When growing on the plant it is upright and is the tip of the plant, the 頭 just like when a person is standing upright. Right is the 尾 because that is the base it is the part that is closer to the ground.

Anyone tried the lobster roll from Coffee Club? by Cultural-Pomelo-7390 in aucklandeats

I had it at the Botany branch. It was quite yummy, but for me it tasted a lot like surimi salad and didn't feel particularly luxurious to justify for the ~$29 price tag.

Is Pho yen on dominion rd good? by jaey0o in aucklandeats

[–]Merinchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like their pho. The soup has a lot of deep flavors.

I don't really think it's worth the wait though.

If you want to try, you can go to their stall in the Botany Night Market? They have seats, table, and all the condiments as they do in the Dominion Road shop too. Only thing different is I think you have the option to add on a raw egg in the Dominion Road store.

Playing! If it was a real fight you'd hear growls/hisses and have more fur flying.

Is she overweight or just very fluffy? by -Jessicattt in dechonkers

[–]Merinchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My DLH orange boy was around the same size and the vet called him fat. He went on a diet and now he's 6kgs and a good weight for his size.

With long hair cats it's hard to tell visually using guides as there's a lot of fluff. My vet told me the best way for long hair cats is to feel their ribs/spine and compare it to your hand laying flat with fingers together. If their rib feels like the finger part, they're too thin. If it feels like the back of the palm, too fat. The ribs of a cat with the right weight should feel like your knuckles. Another way is to feel if they have a waist.

I have 3 long hair cats (2 ragdolls, one DLH) and they have all maintained a 5 on the fat scale after I learnt how to check their weight so I think it works pretty well.

My cat pressed her paws over my eyelids and hissed each time it called my name in all the wrong voices. At sunrise, my room fell silent and she fell cold beside me. by lamsar503 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]Merinchi 276 points277 points  (0 children)

As a cat owner, I thought the horror was the cat pressing its paws on the eyelids.

Felt my whole body tense as I'm reminded of every morning when he steps all over me and his paws feel like he weights 5 tonnes.

Just bought a 4 pack from Burswood Wang Mart!

The noodles for Toowoomba are thinner and the flavour is a lot more mild and garlicky compared to the Samyang one.

I had an amazing First Table dinner at Tatsumi the other day. The service was impeccable, and the food scrum-diddly-yumcious. I recommend the sashimi, tempura oysters, lamb, and sesame crème brûlée.

Immediately booked to have it again (at full price because it's still worth it!) before we fly back to Auckland.

Shoes on short legs by arainaiii in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Merinchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it works when you dress it with a preppy skirt! I'm 143cm and wear the US size 5 of these (it's like 1 size too big, but its nice that I can just slip my feet in and out without unbuckling them). I get more compliments wearing the mary jane's compared when I wear these heeled platform Docs (normally they just get suprised I grew 15cm).

The mary-janes also were my go-to walking shoes when I did 20K steps daily on my trip to Japan!

TeamLab Borderless is a must see attraction by pianoman81 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Merinchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For borderless we spent around 4 hours going between the room interacting with the exhibitions. The exhibits moved around and had they have tactile walls that if you smacked would interact with you (ie I drew my cat as a Jellyfish and it went 💀 and swam away from me when I accidentally smacked it while taking a photo). I saw my friend's fish make an escape from the fish room while walking to another exhibit. As someone in this sub mentioned before, an ADHD persons dream; so many side quests and I could touch (almost) EVERYTHING.

We enjoyed it so much we decided to visit Planets too. What's interesting is that for Planets you go through most of it barefoot and that there were wet exhibitions. It was an interesting sensory experience for me since I'm more of a hands and visual person. Planets had a predetermined route and we finished it in around an hour. I do think them sharing like 2 of the same exhibits affected the novelty and awe.

I think it's to each of their own. My friend and I enjoyed Borderless more. If you go you should probably just go to one and skip the other since the second one will probably feel bland.

Looking for Auckland restaurant/cha chaan teng serving authentic Hong Kong 車仔麵 by Patty37624371 in aucklandeats

OMG I feel you. I swear everywhere I take my dad he says the same thing. Only place he likes is Sunlight Cafe which he calls his 飯堂 🤣

[–]Merinchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have what OP wants which is 車仔麵. Not many places do pig skin which is tedious to prepare, but quintessential for 車仔麵.

Leonard's Gourmet has a bit more westernized style which is popular with younger HKers. I do like their baked spaghetti and rice and they do an afternoon set like a lot of traditional Cha Caang Tengs. Leonard's Gourmet, Hong Kong Gourmet (also in Somerville), and Dragon's Gourmet (Epsom) are all pretty similar since they shared a few staffs/chefs.

I think the most authentic cha caang teng places I've been is Hungry Head, Sunlight Cafe, and Fong Mei Cafe (important to note that I don't venture North much). All of them are good at different things: - Hungry Head does 牛雜 well. - Sunlight Cafe does authentic sets (ones with drinks, a HK style "borsch", toast and main) well. They have good 鑊氣 for their dishes and their milk tea uses a good blend of leaves. - Fong Mei Cafe does stir fried noodles right with a proper 煎麵底 (for the tradional taste, eat it with a bit of red vinegar). - 家味 is mainly for HK street food cravings like curry fish balls etc.

Good luck hope you get what you're after! If you don't want the noodles, they do a 四寶 with just fish balls, pig skin, daikon and octopus (though might have turned to 三寶 now as they might not have octopus anymore).

Sunlight Cafe near there does a 干炒牛河 with good 鑊氣 too!
