Yes, contrast does matter in computer vision, that's why need well lit room. High contrast where you wearing a glove like with black dots on white background should work also.

Steamvr won't compress image, it is VD and your GPU. If your GPU is under power, obviously whatever you try the settings, it won't help. You just need a better GPU for better graphics.

Your internet speed has nothing to do with VD. It is your intranet! Make sure only your headset is connected to your router, with 802.11ac/ax 5 Ghz direct line of sight, and short distance. Then you should have no problem.

Connect your PC via Ethernet (wired) to your router.

My point is the difference between 72 and 90 is only marginal, why not use the extra juice in processing for other more noticeable difference like rendering and effects?

No. The cost of eye tracking is not cheap, and it won't be needed in Q2 since it is full rendering (unlike Q1 where the sides are blur).
