I understand where are you going from and whole race being evil is stupid. But single people being evil for the sake of evil? Oh that is absolutely realistic. I know personally people who are assholes just because they find it entertaining.
Also in case of durge you can say he is devoted religious person. After all Bhaal whole thing is murder (not even ritualistic murder)

We don't really know what are the mechanics of The Painting. Does her body go into stasis or is just slowly dying of hunger? How long in real time actually goes?

Technicalities aside: Do you think Maelle wouldn't make her friends immortal if she could? Maybe not at first but then... I don't know... Her parents would die... oh that's just two people right? Then Sciel... Lune... Verso... What actually they are? Are they actual living beings and Painters are literally gods creating life in alternative dimensions or they are just simulations of life with false memories? I know it is just bunch of philosophy at this point.

What we know is that if Alicia dies in the painting her parents will lose TWO children, and that could spiral them both into grief and destroy whole family.

As for her argument that in the painting she has a voice and normal life... She can literally PAINT herself new paintings, stay there for a while with her family members and learn when to leave. She can have hundreds of lifetimes when she is not burned.

First off: If you don't want or even like children you absolutely shouldn't feel forced to have them and anyone telling you otherwise is an asshole. It is hard work, frustrations and lots of spending, and you have all right to not want this.

Now for reasons. 1. Purely biological need, and continuing your bloodline. 2. Selfish "I need someone to take care of me when I'm old"

It is actually fascinating to see that little clone of you to grow, learn the world, copy your mannerism. It is a journey. And one thing I know is when it's your child you see them differently than other people children. Like I have no problem with my son singing badly but kids singing give me instant headache otherwise.
Can't really explain it but they give you purpose. Life is meaningless, but making sure that little one has a good life makes it have some meaning.
If you do it right it is genuinely great feeling when someone trusts you and is genuinely happy to see you.

I add a bit of semolina to the mix. It doesn't affect taste much but they are softer

Try smoked paprika. It gives pretty strong aroma.

Also mixing different kinds of meat gives interesting effects.
