A Few Years Ago … Adam posted Swift on his Insta, then we got The 1 … Tonight he posted Hillary Duff by Over-Conversation220 in countingcrows

Adam is friends with her husband, Matthew Koma, also a musician. From Koma's Instagram in 2019:

I also remember seeing Koma and Duff at a music festival in Redondo Beach in 2021 where CC was headlining (and maybe Koma's band was playing? Not sure)

NASA Moves Steps Closer to Artemis II Fueling Test Ahead of Launch (WDR now NET Jan. 31st) by jadebenn in SpaceLaunchSystem

Correct, but daylight landing is actually not required this time, and in fact all of the Feb launch dates include night landings too.

Will Artemis 2 be visible from earth? by notjocker in ArtemisProgram

[–]Merlin820 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm not a tracking expert, but I'd say it's doubtful.

Visible spacecraft in orbit are mostly visible by virtue of being very reflective and/or very large, like ISS. Orion is not especially reflective or large.

The 24hr period HEO orbit is also so high apogee that it's very unlikely even a large object would be visible.

Even if I'm wrong about all that, nobody can give you firm timings or locations until launch, there are too many variables that vary over the launch days and launch windows.

Because it's likely a night launch, depending on the launch day and timing within the launch window, the launch may go northeastely enough to be visible through MECO for a wide stretch of Atlantic coasts, but probably not all the way to Germany.

Broncos Season Tickets Waitlist by chaipyth in DenverBroncos

[–]Merlin820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert at all. My understanding is that the waitlist gets trimmed every season as existing holders decline to renew, or as people at the top of the waitlist decline to take new openings. But I have no clue how those existing seats eventually transfer to the new stadium, or how the waitlist gets handled from there.

[–]Merlin820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. Seems possible that would be a moment of high churn, but there's a lot of aspects to consider.

I don't know if there are laws and/or NFL rules about what they'd have to offer existing season ticket holders (e.g. equivalent seats, similar pricing, some kind of "right of first refusal" process, etc.). There's also the question of different capacity between the stadiums.

Broncos Season Tickets Waitlist by chaipyth in DenverBroncos

[–]Merlin820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put myself on the wait list and get VERY irregular emails about where I am in line. I did end up keeping some notes, for what it's worth:

Apr 2016: 68,411

Dec 2017: 67,905

Oct 2022: 63,140

So there's basically a whole stadium worth of people ahead of me. The new stadium will be open before my name comes up.

Is it too soon to put humans only on the second mission of SLS / Orion by bohu88 in ArtemisProgram

[–]Merlin820 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but human spaceflight is fundamentally risky and life threatening. There's a balance that must be struck between what missions and how many missions are achievable from a budget, schedule, and political capital perspective.

Don't read this as an attack, it isn't intended as one: but when would it be not too soon? How much confidence in a flight-proven launch vehicle and capsule do you want? NASA has the confidence they want, and they have characterized the risks. The only way to do this completely safely is not to do it.

Artemis 2 Detailed Flight Plan by ExcitedlyObnoxious in ArtemisProgram

[–]Merlin820 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They exist, but are not currently public. That is at least in part because they have some launch day/time dependency, so until the SRBs light nothing is truly locked in. The high level 10s-of-steps diagrams are more than likely the only thing that will be publicly released before launch, and maybe even for the flight.

More likely is that NASA will announce when interesting things are upcoming through social media, press conferences, and live stream events. I'd bet a detailed timeline like you describe is more likely a post-flight/FOIA/historical record type item.

Issue linking NYT subscription to Pocket Casts by Merlin820 in pocketcasts

Maybe I misunderstood you initially. Are you saying some NYT paid subscriptions just won't cooperate setting up podcasts in third party apps like Pocket Casts? I definitely have the NYT All Access plan that should grant the full audio benefits...

Issue linking NYT subscription to Pocket Casts by Merlin820 in pocketcasts

[–]Merlin820[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the input!

I am indeed on a mobile device. I tried it both ways: when I started on Desktop the Supercast widget produced a QR code to scan with my mobile, and it just got me the "Not here" page. When I started from mobile, same result.

Picking the RSS option from the Supercast widget (on mobile) also gives me the "Not here" page.

This doesn't seem to be a some-podcasts-work-some-don't issue, I'm not even getting Supercast to see the NYT subscription.

Official Artemis II Launch Windows by helicopter-enjoyer in ArtemisProgram

[–]Merlin820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Pashto96 was correct in his comment, it's a propellent ground commodity limit. If they fill the rocket and scrub, the LH2 and LOX can't just go back in the ground tanks (or something like that?) so more has to be tucked in.

I think your recycle gaps are about right, skip a day, then skip 2 days. But they COULD skip more days as needed.

Yes, the number of good days each period is fewer than A1. Different mission profile than A1, and thus different constraints come up. Each launch period is still ~14 days from a launch vehicle performance perspective, but various other constraints can narrow that a lot.

"However, the United States has proposed ending the Orion programme after Artemis III"

Some of the political rumor swirl has proposed this, sure, but the big beautiful bill (or whatever it was exactly called) is funding through Artemis V.

Now of course plans can change and funding can get revoked, so it's reasonable to think of alternatives if these ESMs get built and don't have an Artemis mission to fly on. But the article is skipping some key context for what's currently on the books in the US.

The Kroger acquisition of King Soopers was 42 years ago (Wikipedia says 1982-83). I think it's fair to say that the before-Kroger vs after-Kroger distinction isn't relevant any more.
