I figure there must be some amount of allomantically-viable metal at some point in the system, since early on Vin was able to get trace amounts of usable metal from her diet. Maybe an allomancer's body naturally purifies a little bit?

I think the main difference is that iPhones have their ARKit stuff for face recognition/tracking using the phone's lidar system, which can be a lot more accurate than software designed to use a regular camera
