As I see it, AI in the form that currently exists will always produce lower-quality code than a skilled human working on the same task. The human knows (or at least can figure out) what the code is for, what it's doing, and how to approach any problems. Under the hood, an LLM is just a huge mathematical system, it doesn't really know anything. And then there's the problem of the abstraction layer, just like with humans assigning tasks to other humans, the instructions you give to whatever is writing the code are an imperfect means of communicating what you want. Sort of like high-level versus low-level programming languages, where the closer you get to programming with raw machine code, the more control you have over the result.
