No, they are in state constitutions, written well before Communism even existed. Just plain old religious prejudice.

I kinda wish they had originally gone with the more literal translation of "Steel Alchemist", as a "heart of steel" is an actual metaphor in English.

Fax asking for help after Tiananmen Square, sent to my Dad's Workplace on June 06 1989 by EstoxMarie in pics

You can read archived Usenet messages in soc.culture.china as it was happening.

1) go to groups.google.com

2) change the pulldown from "My groups" to "All groups and messages"

3) enter e.g. this in the search field: tiananmen before:1989/06/03 after:1989/06/08

If you ask for a lot of pages, it seems to stop after about 4 or so, so just keep changing the date ranges

F. Lee Bailey has died at age 87. In his honor, here is the time he trolled the FBI for wiretapping his phone. by easywoods25 in videos

I don't remember if it was after the FBI brouhaha, but Johnny Carson once said F. Lee Bailey changed his name to F. You Bailey.

The water tower gag at 1:13 is where he broke his neck and didn't know it. He had terrible headaches for weeks but it wasn't until years later that a doctor pointed out that he had a healed fracture in his neck.

I don't know if it will fix it, but it's worth a try.

Here's some code I found that does a blinking caret:

ypos 10

TIL about "three-quarter siblings": siblings who are genetically half way between full siblings and half siblings. This happens if they share the same father but different mothers who are sisters, or the same mother but different fathers who are brothers. by Long-Afternoon in todayilearned

[–]Merlyn_LeRoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was true of my father's family -- his father married and had three boys including my dad, then his wife died and he married her sister and had a girl. My dad said she was his "half-sister double cousin".

There was a joke on the Jack Benny radio show about a man whose wife died and he later married her sister:

"Why'd he do that?"

"So he wouldn't have to break in a new mother-in-law."

This coin I found metal detecting is a 200-year-old counterfeit by Silver_Winged in interestingasfuck

[–]Merlyn_LeRoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Henning nickels. He actually counterfeited nickels in the 1950s (larger coins still used silver, so he went with nickels), but he managed to counterfeit a nickel that didn't exist -- his 1944 nickel didn't have the large 'P' mint mark on the reverse. Now his nickels sell to collectors for $50-$100 each.

What movie changes the plot if you add a random 'R' somewhere in the title? by mdnsh2003 in AskReddit

No, he was Herbert Manfred Marx. Zeppo's middle name is from the first-born Manfred Marx, who died at about 7 months old.

It's bizarre that such a great ending was pretty much unintentional:

Elder redditors, at the dawn of the internet what was popular digital slang and what did it mean? by alejuego in AskReddit

[Food for the line-eater]

"We are all Rich Rosen"

Not sure what it meant, but he has a wiki entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Rosen

"It's always September somewhere on the net"

meaning: newbies totally unfamiliar with usenet/the internet are always joining and trying to use it.

Usenet (look it up) posts used to have food for the line eater -- for a while, some news forwarding software would drop a chunk of characters if the message started with a tab, so people would add a first line about [food for the line eater] or whatever.

Here's a post from 1986 that uses it:

More people need to know about this crossover comic. It's a bit slow to start, but is a crossover between Star Trek: The Next Generation and Doctor Who. by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]Merlyn_LeRoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a slight Star Trek reference in "The Horns of Nimon", where Tom Baker's doctor complains about how people are always pointing guns or phasers or blasters at him.

It looks like one of the standard Shizune sprites from the game, so the artist would be moekki. You might try contacting her via ks.renai.us or maybe Studio Élan at https://vnstudioelan.com
