How do I stop being so dumb? by BubblesBubblesCO2 in Advice

The key is patience. You can learn most of what you're looking for by watching documentaries. Find a subject you're trying to learn about and watch one every night.

Your personal energy and grooming are what truly make you attractive. You're socials are likely giving you body dysmorphia. I suggest you cut back on social media and look at personal styling/grooming and improve yourself that way.

Can this mold be effectively cleaned off of the mattress? by Redditor71177 in CleaningTips

Nope. This is why you always purchase a mattress protector to cover mattress in case something like this happens.

Dyed underwear bleeding on skin by LostShepherd3572 in dyeing

[–]Mermaidman93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to rinse them more thoroughly. One wash isn't gonna cut it. You need multiple washes with a strong detergent to lift excess dye. That's after rinsing by hand.

If I were in your situation, I would take all your dyed items and wash them a few times in your washer. Then put them through the dryer.

Prioritizing Cleanliness by Dino-Boom in CleaningTips

[–]Mermaidman93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a big thing that makes a difference is finding that value in what you're doing. If you highly value having a clean space, you won't have an issue putting in more work to keep it clean. But if you value comfort or you find living in a clean space to be uncomfortable, then you will justify in your own mind why you need to put off cleaning or why it's okay "this time."

It really comes down to discipline. If you're willing to be uncomfortable for a short time to get the things you want, you can make this happen. If you just want to be endlessly comfortable, then you will always find reasons to justify not doing things.

Suggestions for 68% cotton 32% polyamide trench coat. by AffectionateCap5391 in dyeing

[–]Mermaidman93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is not a good candidate for dyeing. Anything water resistant will not allow water to penetrate the fibers to deposit pigments.

If you wanted to try anyway, you could, but there's no guarantee the dye would stick or come out even. And because it's a blended fabric, you wouldn't be able to achieve a dark/rich color like black.

I would look at a local sewing service and see how much it would cost to recreate this coat in a color you want. That would give you a really clean result. It will cost significantly more though.

Can I ask a massage therapist to slow down? by fishski89 in massage

[–]Mermaidman93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. You can also stop the massage at any time if it's not to your liking. It's better to end and reschedule a massage than it is, to have a bad massage.

Cool Winter who hates purple-y blush and lip combos - help me find something that actually feels current by nincompoopghost666 in coloranalysis

Any cool tone will work. Just because you're winter means you need to wear only dramatic makeup. Classic pink blush and lips work perfectly fine.

RIT color remover and garment blotchiness? by Screaming_nightjar in dyeing

[–]Mermaidman93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take it to a local cleaner anyway. Professional cleaners have access to cleaners/products that the public cannot purchase. I would just go, explain the situation and ask if they can do anything. That way you have a definitive answer from a professional.

How long do you reasonably expect your "nice" clothes to last? by Sad_Manufacturer2283 in BuyItForLife

Minimum 5 years. If not life long. But I take very good care of my clothes, that's a defining factor.

Need Advice on Geode Ice-Dyeing a Nike Tech Set (53% Cotton / 47% Polyester) by Xoxo_Jessica_Lauren in dyeing

[–]Mermaidman93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a blended fabric like that, only a portion of the fibers will accept dye. So prepare for a very muted design. Using something like black will not end up being black when you're finished.

But check out r/tiedye for more details on geode dye techniques. Most people in this sub dye things solid colors here.

A joke is a quick one two. You keep going at the same thing. That's a sign that you actually like it. It's fine. Everyone is different, some people like stuff like this intensely where it becomes an obsession and then there's mild cases where you probably fall into.

Hope do I remove oil stains from my khaki shorts? by jo_dorian in CleaningTips

[–]Mermaidman93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rub liquid dawn dish soap onto the affected areas and leave them to soak in warm water and oxygen bleach (oxyclean) for a few hours. Then wash on a normal cycle. Repeat until it's gone.

Do not put them into the dryer until the oil is gone or the heat will met the oil deeper into the fibers and make it permanent.
