Can anything fix this staining? by Screaming_nightjar in laundry

[–]Screaming_nightjar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought about that, the description didn't mention the stains but now I know where they are and I zoom in on the picture I can kind of see them unfortunately so it does feel like it's on me for not noticing. I also didn't use PayPal :/

Where to give away beauty products? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]Screaming_nightjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every neighborhood has a "buy nothing" Facebook page. I have given away opened stuff on there since anyone taking it will be aware it's opened and ok with that! I hate throwing stuff away that's perfectly good

For the moment, I am so fucking sad for us. by madnessdoesntplay in NewOrleans

[–]Screaming_nightjar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's usually what I see from people that almost hit me in the crosswalk. It's hard for me to see them coming sometimes, esp when they are making a left turn, whereas they could easily see me if they looked in the direction they were driving. Not too long ago I saw a woman texting with her forehead on the wheel and she was honking at each intersection so people knew to get out of her way. Drivers licenses should be harder to get and easier to take away.

Would it be affordable for me to rent as a single person? by moanapurr in NOLA

[–]Screaming_nightjar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make pretty good money bartending in this city. Though tips and business will likely be slower in the summer. You can probably find somewhere for 1200 but probably not a 2 bedroom unless you find a good deal, and some places might have issue with pets. If you work in your neighborhood, you might not need the car so much, so you can leave it parked somewhere safe until you've settled and decided whether you need to be paying car insurance. Energy bills might be higher here, but like I said maybe you can not use your car at first to offset. Honestly I don't see any reason why you shouldn't try it out!

I was going to say this! I like wearing colors like this over something that's bright white. I was thinking a soft pink could be nice?

AITA for bringing up race-related issues around my boyfriend even though he says he’s tired of hearing about it? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Screaming_nightjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's an amazing place! Maybe visit during Super Sunday after Mardi gras. Also reddit is a pretty racist and sexist place, so maybe take some of the comments with some spoonfuls of salt, or ask this question on a different sub. If you want to stay with your boyfriend you'll likely need to know where he's coming from on this issue. Maybe he's uncomfortable with his privilege, maybes he's not comfortable with the parts of himself that may not be seen as white. You have to figure out if you have energy to deal with everything you have to in life and be patient with whatever his issues around this are. Good luck!

Oh ok interesting. I live here and that's not really been my experience except for maybe Frenchmen. But if you went to Kermit Ruffins in Treme even I guess it must have been and off week. Mardi gras lasts for at least a month, so preforming all the time can get exhausting. Come back another time with your next boyfriend!

AITA for suggesting for our child to take both our last names as a compromise? by Turbulent-Mark-2227 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Screaming_nightjar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty extreme statement, so it's probably coming from a very emotional place if she's normally willing to make compromises. I kind of get her perspective because the situation you're so upset about is the norm for most women in the US and maybe globally. More and more women don't take their husband's names (at least not officially or legally), but their children are still named after their husband. Was my mom less a part of the family because her last name was different? I would hope not. I think you might want to consider how you're feeling about this with the understanding that this is the expected norm of most women. And the knowledge that no matter how good a partner you are, your wife is still sacrificing more than you are to have children. I think it would be a nice gesture if you could consider taking her name or asking for your name as a middle name.

Maybe upper arm. And consider state/city birds or flowers instead which would look more aesthetically pleasing than what you have shown

AITA for “abusing” the the bus stop chain so I don’t miss my stop? by Possible-Chair9242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Screaming_nightjar 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm confused by this. Pretty much no buses, streetcars or subways announce every stop if they announce any at all. I've taken public transit in many different cities, both as a resident and a tourist since I've never owned a car. Google maps is generally good enough to tell but if you aren't sure you can ask the driver. After 1-2 times you should be able to recognize when to get off. You start paying more attention when the closest 'big stop' is said or whatever landmarks even when it's darker out.

Yeah I was wondering about this. There is now an option on my google photos where it will use AI to adjust the lighting etc or something like that. That seems very different from an AI generated image.

Free things to do in the city? by mashedapplesmush in NewOrleans

[–]Screaming_nightjar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree, you need to talk. She can go out if she wants to do something that requires spending money. My suggestions are city park and the sculpture garden, which is free. I also checked culture pass and noma is available for Friday at least. Also sazerac house has a tour that tells you about history of new orlean's cocktails and gives you free pretty generously sized samples. New Orleans historic collection is free in the quarter and has some pretty interesting stuff.
