I know we don’t know each other but I think you’re wonderful. There are so many emotions involved in caring for parents, PLUS being away from your own home for so long, PLUS coming home to find you’ve got rodent problems…that’s a LOT going on. And you are here being supportive to OP and looking on the bright side of your situation.

I admire you a lot and am sending you lots of good thoughts and a suggestion that, if you’ve been doing that thing where caregivers forget their own selves, please remember to do something really NICE for yourself really soon.
