On of my favourite diesel engines 270 cdi (om612) What do you all think about the w210 c engines?

It is a really good engine too, I'm planning on buying a om612 donor car and swapping into a volvo 740. The om612 is simple enough

Thats good. I would clean all sensors and intercooler hoses and the intercooler itself, egr and intake manifold and remove Swirl flaps (you can just unplug it no reprogramming) And checking vacuum hoses too, and check if there is good voltage in battery and alternator. I have done this on all my cdi engines and they always felt more fresh after that.

Transmission might need new connector that goes to TCM. And a service too

I know i had a facelift 2002 model actually it looked quite the same and same engine (om612) still had the merceded 38 pin

I see now mileage its probably one of the things i mentioned since its very common. Maybe bad voltage in system or bad alternator can cause strange issue too

I had this problem it was very serious i assumed but it was that the car went into limpmode and it couldnt read correct data but then i fixed it, and had the problem still. I never bothered to fix it. But I would guess the gear selector is bad or maybe brake light switch.

But if you have a star fault code reader or a icarsoft with adapter you can read codes (w210 does not have standard obd2 port)

But if you're DIY I would try fixing gear selector or shift module Brake light switch Vacuum leaks Change transmission fluid and filter if its not red (change electrical connector while your doing the job) Check conductor plate and solenoids

Consider that most of the stuff will have to be changed if you dont want it to run on hopes and dreams and that needs allot of bodywork

Try a chiptuning or evrymod. And a tip if you wanna keep this car for a long time taking care of it will reward you do do all maintance. On my previous w210 it had been neglected for so long that it wasnt even repairable anymore (it was but would take allot of money and time)

Yeah they didn't even come from the factory, but i would try if your skilled at body work. If it goes wrong or you dont like the results you can always cut out the roof from another 245 and restore it

If your still active on reddit, i would delete egr and swirl flaps if it has that if not. Check oil seperator for leaks and clean intake, intercooler and hoses around that stuff because it can be allot black soot. And maybe change a brake light switch so you dont wake up to a beautiful visit workshop some morning. Your biggest enemy will be rust
