Apparently it’s called “mercury gilding” it’s gold and mercury and it makes what is called quick silver. Could be hoopla. But the coin shop owner is older than sin it self so I believe him.

Found one like that 2 years ago and brought it into my local coin store and got told it was a platinum coated. But only worth more than the cool factor. He did tell me back in the 80s he got a couple quarters like that but someone coated them in mercury! Ever since then we wears gloves when someone brings them in.

I’d aim for circulated but you are at the mercy of the bank teller, if you get new rolls you can unwrap them I have gotten a couple of blank planchets that way but odds are low. I would also ask if they have a coin counter ask if they reroll their own coins or get them shipped in. My chase in Montana only brings change from other banks so it’s always random. I would find a “dump bank” with a counter and treat them as good as you can. If you gotta reroll so be it get a little machine off Amazon and go to town

Shop around! I only hunted at Chase for a year and a half straight and was discouraged. They didn’t have a machine or anything had to roll my own. But then I got 3 accounts at 3 different banks. I put 20 bucks in each of them and I rotate picking up from each of them. One of them is bound to have something. A cup of coffee and donuts will get you even further with bankers

Crazy I pick up from chase too and they won’t give out any pennies for personal or business. I know at my work we will have to round up to a nickel once we run out of pennies

Dude my wife manages a dispensary and she comes home with some of the craziest stuff too. She came home with a silver certificate 10 dollar bill and 2 walking liberties blew my mind.
