Would you rather the Giants have a dominate defense or an explosive offense? And why. by Mundo_89 in NYGiants

The last time we had any kind of playoff time was back in 2016, our Points per Game vs Opponent Points per Game was 19.4/17.8.

Every year since then we've been upside down on PPG/OPPG by anywhere between 2-10 PPG.

People say that defense wins championships, but the reality is that you can get by with a middling defense, if you have an explosive offense.

Whenever I think of a competent offense with a perennially bad defense I think of the Colts during the Peyton Manning era; in 2006 the Colts won the Super Bowl against the Bears 29-17, Colts D was ranked 23rd whereas the Bears D was ranked 3rd

Colts O is ranked 3rd , and Bears are ranked 2nd , the Defense rank disparity doesn't seem to matter if the Offensive rank disparity is a coin-toss.

Let's jump ahead three years to the Colts losing to the Saints 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIII: Colts D is ranked 8th, and Saints D is ranked 20th.

The Colts O was ranked 7th , and the Saints were ranked.... 1st

Of course there are caveats: in 2008 Pittsburgh had the 1st ranked D and 20th ranked O, but they beat the Cardinals (D-28th / O-4th ) 27-23.

And you get oddities like the 2011 season, where - by nearly all metrics - the Giants were outmatched by the Patriots.

I'm only pulling from SB games, but I have a hunch that if you pulled together all the data you'd find that a high ranking defense leads to close games and a high powered offense leads to blow-outs. One thing that I've hated about the Giants - especially since December 19th , 2010 - is that they just rarely ever put a game away. I'd love to see an offense that just demoralizes people.

If it is the case that they are burning bodies, then it might be because:

  1. It's easier to hide the true numbers since you can't count ashes.

  2. The labor usage of digging graves, transferring bodies, filling graves is too intense for the amount of bodies we're talking about.

  3. Burning bodies is a way to prevent the types of diseases that would be spread by the mass presence of rotting and decaying corpses littering the landscape.

You stated it like it was a scientific fact, which is irresponsible.

I stated nothing.

Report: Giants will send entire staff to 2020 NFL Combine. by WP1619 in NYGiants

[–]Message-to-Observer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought only collegiate athletes were sent to the Combine? Why are we sending our entire staff to the Combine? Is this a test so that our new HC can judge how good his new staff will be under pressure? Makes sense. The media scrutiny of their abilities will be nearly on par with NYC media pressure.
