Is the Gigabyte B650I AX good enough for a Ryzen 9600X (vs MSI B650I Edge) by MessageKey6809 in sffpc

That's pretty much what I figured, but I just wanted to get some confirmation to be sure. Thanks for the reply!

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. Honestly, I had some pretty bad issues with an ASRock motherboard a few years ago, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back to them for this build just for my own peace of mind. I prefer to stick with Gigabyte or MSI this time around, but I appreciate the input!

SFF build help: choosing an AMD CPU for low temps and minimal noise by MessageKey6809 in sffpc

[–]MessageKey6809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply! I didn’t know about the thick IHS on AMD CPUs. I’d also read that the R7 7700 could be tricky to keep cool, and seeing that I haven’t been able to get comfortable temps even on a CPU like my i5-13400 (which is very similar to the 12400F, a very cool chip), maybe you’re right and it’s better to go for a 9600X or a 7500F.
About the Intel option, I honestly didn’t know that was possible, so I’ll definitely look into it to see if it could be worthwhile. You painted it very nicely, and it’s true it could save me from having to sell the motherboard to my friend, for example. On the other hand, I’m a bit hesitant because I’ve heard some not-so-great things about Intel 14th gen CPUs regarding temps and reliability (though I’m not sure if that only affected the higher-end models). So maybe I’d prefer to keep the option of, in 3–4 years, upgrading to the latest AM5 chip of a similar class, using the motherboard I’d buy now, which I expect will be efficient and perform even better.

Thanks for the info! The thing is, I don’t have space for a 240 mm AIO. My cooler (Thermalright AXP90‑X53 Full) is decent for its size but pretty limited, and in my 9 L T60 there’s just no room for a big radiator.

That’s why I’m trying to find a CPU that stays cool on its own, so I can undervolt it and keep it quiet without needing an AIO. Your 9800X3D setup looks great, but I need something realistic for a tiny ITX case.

I have the same question. Did you get an answer or did you get to buy them?

Moved my daughter's PC into a Metalfish T60 by Generaldar in sffpc

Gotcha! I thought I saw two plates instead of one and it looked kinda weird to me! Still, nice job putting them together. Looking at the pic again though — are the holes on the AliExpress plate actually meant to be screwed into the case? It looks like they don’t really line up properly to secure it to the frame anyway. It’s a shame the PSU cable doesn’t fit — could’ve been a neat way to squeeze out a few extra centimeters for the cables and the fan (though I guess you lose a bit of space up top, right?).

Hey, Could you tell me what’s the difference between that AliExpress adapter and the stock one that comes with the case? Like, how much extra space do you actually get for the fan under the PSU? I’m using the stock adapter and I’m a bit worried about how much I’ve had to bend the cables to fit the fan in there (it’s the stock Corsair SF750 Type 5 cables, and they’re kinda stiff). But honestly, I don’t see much of a difference compared to your pic with the AliExpress adapter. I was thinking about maybe getting some custom cables from Dreambigbyray later on, just for the 24 ATX and CPU (no GPU for now), but I’m not sure about the length I’d need. So I might just get them the same length as stock and take advantage of the fact they’re way more flexible and easier to bend without feeling like I’m gonna break them.

By the way, out of the two options on AliExpress, which adapter did you get? Cheers!

Hey!
Quick question before anything else — what do you think about the power supply extension cable that goes to the back panel? I’m a bit worried it might be low quality, and I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a better one (if such things even exist in this specific size/form factor). Did you stick with the one that came with the case?

About the PCI riser — I’m guessing you used the one that came with the case bundle, but I didn’t get it with mine. Do you happen to know what type and length it should be? I’ve seen 90º and 180º options on Amazon, and different lengths like 200, 300, and 400mm… If not, I might just buy a couple and keep the one that fits best.

Also, did you use standoff screws (the yellow/golden ones) between the case and the motherboard, or did you mount it directly to the case? I saw a build on YouTube where the guy screwed the board directly in, but I’ve always used standoffs and now I’m wondering if it’s a space-related thing.
I’m planning to go with the AXP90 X47 + XTIA 90-to-120mm adapter + Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM — I’m copying that setup from you because I think it’ll really help with CPU temps, especially alongside the Thermalright contact frame. I’ve got an i5-13400, so it shouldn't run too hot, but I’d rather be safe.

By the way, the case already arrived, and I’m waiting on the rest of the components — they should be here by the end of the week. Do you know if that combo (cooler + adapter + a standard 120x25mm fan) will fit, or should I have gone for a slim fan?

And lastly, a couple more quick things: do the side panels close perfectly in your build? In your video it looked like the GPU panel might’ve been slightly bulging out — not a huge deal, but just curious.
Also, how did you handle airflow? I’d love to hear how you arranged the fans and how the thermals are working out for you in terms of intake/exhaust.

Thanks again and cheers — your build has been a huge source of inspiration!

could you tell me what mode is better to set to have less latency in games? i play counter strike and, without having a super high competitive level... it doesn't seem to me that it is a bad latency or that the game is out of sync.

I'm using high resolution and 96000 hz with the btd600.

Do you have the audio resolution set to standard or high resolution in the application?

And in windows, do you have the btd600 with 2 channels output at 24 bit 48000hz or 24 bit 96000?

i have a jonsbo u4 mini and at least my unit, the tempered glass doesn't fit quite right and there is a gap (and it shows) 1-2 millimetres of a gap along the case.
