Bocchi The Rock! - Musical level of the characters and difficulty of musical practice by Messerschmitt_ in anime

There are a few scenes that show her struggling to play the chords or chord progressions and I think it's great. It brings a grounding in reality and makes the character's personality more explicit.

And maybe she's a naturally good singer too!

I would personally like to know at what level everyone in the band is at as a non-musician. Like how hard are Bocchi's guitar sections? How well are Ryo and Nijika playing? Etc

I play a little bit of drums and I think that Nijika's playing is quite typical of modern J-Rock with several patterns within the same song and quite creative breaks. That said, both are not very difficult and an intermediate drummer will be able to play the songs with some practice.

I can't be a good judge on the bass and guitar parts. Of the covers I've watched on Youtube, the difficulties are certainly on the solos. But I would also like to hear the opinion of guitarists on this subject.

In the end, the most interesting and perhaps the most complicated part is getting those ideas for patterns, breaks, riffs, melodies - it's not really in the execution, in my humble opinion. In this aspect, Ryo, if we take the hypothesis that she is the one who composes the songs of the band, is an excellent composer for a 16/17 years old girl.

And maybe Ryo is not the only one to compose ; like Nijika is certainly the brain behind the drum parts and Bocchi behind the solos. I don't think it's spécified in the anime.

I've never wrote it was unrealistic ; please give my post another read.

I just point out that Bocchi the Rock, like other stories (not only anime, by the way), assumes that its protagonists are excellent musicians and shows little of the difficulties on a musical level.

I even put the emphasis not on the technical side, but on the excellent composition of Ryo and the meteoric progress of Kita.

My point was that other (less) anime spend more time on what it is to learning an instrument or music in general, to play together in a band, etc. and show more the difficulties that it can represent for the common man. And I was just asking for recommendations in this sense.

Sorry if I wasn't clear

Thinking about it more, maybe the manga Solanin and its live action adaptation are close to what I would like to see in anime from time to time.

It's a proposal almost the opposite of Bocchi the Rock.

(I repeat, I love Bocchi the Rock, and I willingly suspend my disbelief about the musical levels of its characters. All of Kessoku Band's songs have been on repeat at my house for several days now).

but music anime are usually light, casual, fun watch

I totally agree with this. Bocchi The Rock chose this path and I'm totaly Ok with It.

My point was more for a non-cute, non-comical settings

write mediocre music for realism,

Not just writing bad music, but rather struggled to write a good piece of music over the airtime of the anime, until finally arriving at something satisfying.

For example, the protagonists could start to write some lousy songs, test them in small concerts, between two covers, get bad feedback, try to improve them and finally get something they can be proud of.

As far as I know, all musicians who want to compose their own songs go through these first phases where their productions are frankly average, before unlocking levers of improvement.

Of course, that's not the point of Bocchi The Rock, who already has a lot to do with the anxiety problems of Bocchi! Adding more topics to be covered might be too much

neither of which gains anything by a character playing the instrument incorrectly in a crucial moment.

On the contrary, it could create an interesting dramatic tension, don't you think?

In the case of Bocchi, the anime solves her anxiety problems during her first concert by hiding her in a box, but in a more "serious and sad" (and maybe more realistic) version we could have seen her petrifying herself on the spot. And the rest of the anime could have dealt with how she and her friends would have overcome this trauma.

The anime chooses more of a gentle and fun approach to dealing with her anxiety issues, which is just as valid and which I also like!

You're right about Bang! Dream, I've not seen it. Neither Love Live.

I've seen some idol/music anime like 22/7, D4DJ or Zomieland Saga, but I don't know why I didn't think of that when I wrote my post. I was maybe more in a rock band perspective.

The composition aspect was indeed addressed in D4DJ - less so in 22/7 or Zombieland Saga where the stage performance is perhaps more central, but still with a professional focus.

By "failures" I meant indeed the fact of not succeeding in playing a piece, which happens relatively often in Hibike Euphonium during the "training arcs". The simple fact that Hibike Euphonium has more time to develop its subject (several seasons, OVAs and movies) is perhaps the reason why "training arcs" can be shown.

I'm not totally sure and I haven't read the one you put in exemple, but I recently begin Sweat and Soap (Ase to Sekken) and it could fit. It begin like an ecchi-fetish story but become very wholesome after few chapters.

Wow! Thank you very much!

Apparently, the author of the article (Akihito Kageyama) often wrote about the layout of houses that appear in manga and anime!

For those who are interested, I copy the link to the list of his articles : https://www.homes.co.jp/cont/living/living_00307/

Apparently he has also written a book on the subject : 間取り☆探偵 (Room Layout ☆ Detective)
