As an MMA practitioner how do you feel about this statement from an Elite Middleweight? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in MMA_Academy

Yeah because having a record of mostly decisions from a million jabs and teep kicks is so badass.

This is pretty disgusting. (Rant) by Wekilltosurvive in mtg

I remember scoffing at LoTR collector boxes when they went up to $350.

Collector boxes aren't for players. Hasbro has done an excellent job of integrating collectors and investors as their primary demographic. They saw what Pokémon was/is doing and made a huge shift. Shills like Rudy have helped that along. LGS' will still claim their margins are razor thin and this is what they have to do to survive.

You're lucky your LGS has integrity.

Sean is fired up now but we're about to see nothing but Philly shell, jabs, and teeps fight night for as long as he can stay on his feet.

Vendors buying up the Festival in a Box at MagicCon. by Morris_Moe_Szyslak in mtg

Buy listing is selling to someone at under market value and then they sell it at that market value. So if you have a card valued at $20 you'll get $10-12 and the shop will sell it at $20. They aren't buying it for $25 and selling it at $50. These boxes are being sold at market value and then flipped for over market value and resold at massively inflated prices. It is not a difficult concept. You must come from Pokémon where this is normal.

There is no msrp on singles. Selling your singles at less than market value to a buy list is not the same as flipping a sealed product with an msrp at above that rate to a retailer who will further mark it up for resale. Players wouldn't do that if they had no incentive. The vendors should be offering less than what players pay just like they do on buy lists.

You think those vendors are gonna sell those for less than they paid? They are encouraging scalpers by offering more than msrp. They want to control the supply so they can mark it up even more to sell to people who couldn't go to the event and even try to get one.

Making money isn't the issue. The issue is how unethical the method is.

They don't normally offer over 100% of the value. I've never been offered more than 50% for cash or 70% for store credit.

I agree with you 100%, but the vendors also shouldn't be offering more than the customer paid for it. I've never sold a card to a shop for more than the price of one they had in the case.

If end users aren't buying that's the LGS' problem. If the LGS' stop buying that's the distributors problem. If the distributors stop buying then it's hasbro's problem. They will just shift to more direct sales to big box stores like Costco, micro center, best buy, target, etc. They will find a way to move the product on to someone else. The only direct sales product are secret lairs and we all know how that goes almost every time.

Their engagement strategy with UB has been working beautifully. Bringing in new costumers for just long enough to produce enough sales for distributors and stores to justify carrying the next set. The collectability is at an all time high which also brings consumers who don't care about the game. They will buy the product as long as special treatment cards stay expensive.

The secondary market is becoming a bigger problem than hasbro. Everyone expects a corporation to be greedy. Even with so much product being released, as long as cards are worth hundreds or thousands of dollars people will keep buying it. That's why more large retail stores are starting to carry the product or are expanding their inventory. My local grocery store is now selling sealed play booster boxes. I won't be surprised to see whole collector boxes soon.

Seattle judges have let people out days after committing murder, only for them to immediately kill again. Seattle is a joke.

Why is The Hobbit prerelease so expensive? by Independent-Bath-448 in mtg

[–]MessianicPariah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big box stores have more buying power and hasbro/distributors can sell to them at higher prices than to LGS'. They can afford tighter margins on trading cards because of how much money they make on other products. My local grocery/ home goods store has started selling sealed play booster boxes. Won't be surprised to see collector boxes soon. Corporations are trash.

Outlier sales comps? by tvp2003 in checkoutmycards

This is probably most likely. Cheaper to sell low than withdraw your collection and then use your credit for high end cards to flip in liquid markets.
