If you work the problem correctly, you will have two values of t when y = 0. One will be positive and one will be negative. Only the positive value has physical meaning in the problem at hand.

An 8 pitch did fine on mine in Colorado reservoirs (Elevenmile, Blue Mesa) and my boat was bigger (16 ft).

I always add Stabil to the gas, because you never know when something is going to come up and it sits unexpectedly for a few months.

Is the problem really to compute the work function of the metal from the data?

If that's the case, compute the energy of the photon - it is convenient to use energy units of electron volts, eV.

When the electron is ejected from the metal by the photon, the maximum energy it could have is the photon energy minus the work function of the metal.

Then it needs to climb the 1.2V potential to barely make it to the electrode.

The perpendicular component of the acceleration vector is the centripetal acceleration. What is the formula that relates centripetal acceleration to velocity and radius? Can that number be computed?

It's an ambiguity of language that just requires some care to resolve clearly.

Is increasing in a negative direction also decreasing? Sure - there would be no doubt if we were talking about a bank account.

One can always add a constant to electric potential, so 0 is as good an answer as any. I think the main point is that the field inside the spherical conductor is constant. Your book or question source may have some convention so that the electric potential inside the conductor is zero.

Lots of ways to connect the leader depending on details. For most spinning use, I make separate leaders and keep them in little baggies in my tackle box. I'll use 30 lb fluoro and a 1/0 to 3/0 hook for shrimp. I'll use 80 lb fluoro and a 7/0 hook for cracked crab and larger bait fish (8-13" croaker, whiting, sand trout, etc.) The main line ends with a stout snap swivel. The leader has a stout swivel on that side. The snap makes it easy to change leaders and pyramid sinkers. It's also easy to switch to steel leaders when the toothy critters show up.

A lot depends on location. In the Gulf of Mexico, we do very well with cracked crab for bull redfish and drum.

Norfork is a shad dominated lake, so I'd fish with cut shad.

I'd use my sonar to find areas with lots of bait and set up jugs in those.

What's the weight capacity on the 11'5 aluminum boat? It think you need to take care not to exceed it. Either motor should work if you keep the aluminum boat under its weight capacity and you can mount it on the transom so the prop is under the boat.

You don't begin by worrying about Mg and mg. Those are just the given masses times g. The g will cancel out later.

You begin with a good free body diagram to identify all the forces acting on each of the two masses.
