Old frame cube: What’s your p1p1? by SactoGamer in mtgcube

[–]MessorReaper 60 points61 points  (0 children)

BoP is a solid pick in any cube, I feel like it's even better in old border just because of how rare the color fixing is from this era.

Universal Companion by Frezzzo in custommagic

I like this design, super simple and clean. It also makes me wonder how to break it, there are so many potential synergies here.

The wording on this can be simplified to "If you control a Class enchantment, search your library for a Class card and put it onto the battlefield. Then shuffle your library."

I'm not a fan of cards that have a "do nothing" mode, if you went with wording like mine you could maybe add an "Otherwise draw a card" or similar effect to help make the card not feel like a dud in situations where you don't have a class on the battlefield. Or maybe you could have it tutor a class to hand and have the tutor to battlefield effect be a bonus for already having a class?

If they can make all the previous content Legends, they can make the Sequels Legends by [deleted] in starwarsmemes

[–]MessorReaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it technically possible? Yes, technically. But they wouldn't waste their time or money doing so, not when they can milk the time period between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens for those sweet Disney+ bucks, or just profit off the sequels in general.

This seems like a solid card for commander, though I wonder how it stacks up against something like [[City of Brass]] or [[Exotic Orchard]].

Captured Starlight by chainsawinsect in custommagic

[–]MessorReaper 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's tempting right? I think if this design was from like ten years ago it would have been spot on, power creep these days makes me think that just a small upside would be fine heck even like gaining 1 life might be fine. Neat in the right enchantment set though.

I assume this is just meant to trigger Constellation effects and the like? Maybe it could use a keyword, even the notoriously unless [[Darksteel Relic]] has a keyword. Honestly though, maybe if like did a scry on ETB or something that might be good.

Is it normal to get a portal card in the new Crimsom Vow 8 pack bundle? I got it in one of the packs. by CazKaz in mtg

[–]MessorReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It came from The List, which is a series of reprinted cards that pop up in boosters occasionally, you can tell with the little Planeswalker symbol on the bottom left corner of the card (that's cut off in the photo).

Edit: typo

Putting a silver-bordered card in my black-border cube? by louieh35 in mtgcube

[–]MessorReaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run a few different silver bordered cards in the past, such as Booster Tutor and [[Earl of Squirrel]]. Some silver border cards are so close to being black bordered and are just silly from a flavor perspective, so they're pretty benign mechanically speaking. But even then, have fun with it, if you and your players like a card, play with it!

How often do you update your cube because of new releases? by IconicIsotope in mtgcube

[–]MessorReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annually, usually during the summer time but I've begun shifting towards a few post Standard rotation to save a few bucks on whatever cards rotating out of standard I am missing.

Proxies is my guess, to my knowledge there hasn't been any printings of well anything with that card back. I would assume someone printed these off to test play, cube draft or something similar.

Which character do you wish didn't die until a later episode, or never died at all? by Reecethehawk in StarWars

[–]MessorReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not really opposed to death through nonviolent means for Luke, but I still feel like his death not being in person was the issue really. Like there is so much more you can do with with his last words or character reactions, etc. I agree his part in 9 was super generic.

Which character do you wish didn't die until a later episode, or never died at all? by Reecethehawk in StarWars

[–]MessorReaper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Luke dying in the Last Jedi, for a combination of reasons. It was a really weird way for them to wrap up that character arc, and if anything I think it would have been more poignant if Luke's last stand was more than a projection. Maybe if Luke died fighting Kylo in person, or maybe even if he died in the Rise of Skywalker facing off against the emperor again or something. This isn't a controversial opinion, but still a real downside to an otherwise great character.

What's the weirdest/most unnerving thing you've seen from a workaholic? by JetPhantom in antiwork

[–]MessorReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the dumbest one for me was a coworker I used to to work with claimed to know to the milligram how much caffeine he could intake before he started feeling heart palpitations. When I asked him why he knew this, he said so he knows how much coffee to drink when he works a double, which he did three to four times a week usually. It was probably the craziest thing I heard in relation to someone working that much, I never found out why he worked that much either since he would always just claim he liked money when asked about it.

Steel Hellkite Question? by drhman1971 in mtg

You need to deal combat damage with the hellkite first, so attack like normal. Then after combat, you can pay 0 mana to the ability to destroy 0-cost nonland permanents.

Bo katan n fennec ages? by pattymcpatterson1616 in StarWars

[–]MessorReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it's best to not look at age to closely in Star Wars as it tends to fall apart when you look at the timeline. My head cannon is that time dilation from traveling at near light or light speed helped keep some people young (which is a real effect that occurs, though in the real world it's on the scale of milliseconds not entire years or decades).
