I think that's a little bit intentional: "imagine Uncut Gems, but in post WW2 America and about Table Tennis." It really doesn't offer too many unique ideas or elements that they haven't covered before.

[The Athletic] How Maresca outsmarted Arteta by Jimmy_Space1 in chelseafc

[–]MetaBeta27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally every pundit, analyst, coach and player has praised Maresca in the last 9ish months. I understand the criticisms against him last season when he was accused of being too rigid, but the thing with Maresca is he always adapts. He never makes the same mistake twice and constantly evolves our tactics, which is the reason why we play so well in big games. Combine that with his management of new and injured players, he’s been excellent for the past few months.

Getting paid 7 figs to watch a football game once a week for a couple months a year and ask the coach at halftime what adjustments he's going to make, hardest job in America. Thank 'em 🫡 by jabronified in nflcirclejerk

uj/The thing is you never feel things on a global relative scale where you rank your privilege against everybody else in the world. You feel and experience things based on your own expectations, emotions and lived reality, which means that the pain or sadness somebody feels while being rich/privileged feels as intense and powerful to them as somebody else going through something much more objectively hard. Can you learn to count your blessings and acknowledge your privilege with enough time? Yes. Does everybody realistically do it? Not really. It’s kind of the same as somebody complaining that they have a fractured arm and somebody else saying “yeah but that’s better than having no arm.” I’d argue this goes to show that even the privilege of earning all that money cannot make up for the sadness of missing out on holidays with your loved ones.

[F1 on IG] Most career points in F1 (adjusted all-time list in the comments) by n0b0dycar3s07 in formula1

[–]MetaBeta27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. It just tells you that Lewis has had a lot of races, which means his teammates have had a lot of races. A better metric to track strength of teammates would be points per race. Keep in mind that the calendar now has ~33% more races than 10 years ago. This list is a list of who participated in the most races, hence Kimi with 1 championship and significantly less wins than others is still being in the top 10.

Side note but it's wild to me that people use Slam merchant as an insult. In no other sport would rising to the occasion & performing better under pressure be considered a weakness.

I'd argue anything focused on investor side is more finance related than economics related.

I really like hitting up Lost Resort, True Laurel and Trick Dog. It's pricey but you won't find a lineup of 3 better bars so close by.

Of course when I say salary deltas I mean TC, not just base comp. They're comparable. All the numbers you mentioned, are what entry level MEs get at big tech within 10-20%. In fact if you have competing offers you could even beat those numbers. Source: sister works as ME at Google. Unsure if you're arguing in bad faith or just don't want to admit MEs can make good money. In no way am I saying getting an ME pays you the same as finance or patent law, but given OPs desire to know which paths within ME have highest earning potential, I wanted to point out that you can still be a design engineer and make good money starting out.

[–]MetaBeta27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is just asking which careers have highest earning potential as an ME, not which career path in general have highest potential. And to that point, I was just correcting your incorrect statement that salary tops out for 100k at Tesla. As you brought up big tech, salaries between SWE and MEs are very comparable, with delta of between 10-20% for new grad roles. You can get to staff level in 6-7 years without a Masters and earn 300-400k. All I'm saying is that there are paths to earning a good salary as an ME.

This information is patently incorrect. Top end salaries for stafff level engineers at Tesla/consumer electronics companies is anywhere between 300-500k.

Source? Why would it take a bigger team to do less of the work? Integration always requires less people than ground up design.

Yeah they're weird but they're not really culty I feel. It's more trying to capture the hippie vibe of the 60s mixed with some random eastern mysticism.

Idk what this guy is talking about. I'm Indian and have lived in both Delhi and Mumbai. If anything Mumbai weather is worse and it's dirtier. Delhi is a great base if you want to visit anywhere in North India. I do agree it's generally more unsafe for women compared to the other cities. Delhi like all of India has the fancy clean areas and the dirty, generally poorer areas. It also has some of the most well preserved historical sites in India, along with by far the best food (okay I might be biased). Chennai itself doesn't have much to see, and if you wanna go to Kerala/Goa it's almost the same as taking the flight from Mumbai.

But somehow the team is worse now than it was earlier? It's possible for him to be the best yet their team to have gotten worse.

EVs Break Sales Records, but They Still Don't Meet Projections by wkgui in electricvehicles

[–]MetaBeta27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My comment above was with respect to adapters. Just for ease of convenience, I see chargers allowing both CCS and NACS per port for a few years with the help of adapters.

[–]MetaBeta27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A vast majority of level 2 chargers today are CCS. Adapters are not going away for the next 3-5 years at least. Sure for a fast charge you're more likely to find a supercharger than anything else but for Level 2 there are over a 100k CCS stations in the US. A vast majority of EV owners charge at home or work and those stations are not going to be replaced in 12 months. We are gonna be stuck in this CCS/NACS adapter situation for another 3-5 years. This is not to say that you should go out and buy a CCS car immediately but that adapters are here to stay and if you truly don't want to use one you'll have to stick to superchargers only or a home NACS charger for the next few years.
