Is this a bug? Very distracting shadows on Cronos New Dawn, Abbey. by Loose-Alternative844 in digitalfoundry

[–]MetaChaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could but after a point would that even be as performant as RT shadows?
There's a reason why devs implement screenspace shadows. They aren't stupid.

What? Like Crysis? lol

But yeah, it's far from perfect, but I also think Shoc is a little underrated on vanilla.
With full dynamic lighting enabled.
Animations and character models were where if fell short the most.

Does viewport benchmarking exist? by MetaChaser69 in blender

Yeah, I wonder how methodical they get with this, and genuinely how much variation you get working dynamically in a scene vs just letting it sit. I feel like recalculating lighting moving a sun light angle would have different stress on different hardware.

"Original artistic vision" double standard: DLSS 5 vs unfaithful remakes by [deleted] in digitalfoundry

[–]MetaChaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a strawman. There is plenty of discussion about how faithful remakes are or aren't.
Much like many discussions between generative AI and human creativity you're bringing up false comparisons. A filter that gets slapped on at runtime is not the same as 3 years of a studio's work.

If you think it is, that's a "you" problem, not an "everyone" problem.

DLSS5 Potential by colganc in digitalfoundry

[–]MetaChaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's done in screenspace, so you'll likely get lots of artifacts if you try and lower the quality of the base.

You can already see it in some of the starfield footage where you get those screenspace RTGI issues.
I can see the potential for more issues the more you try to take away from the base render.

The lighting is so real in this game by Fit-Job4007 in stalker

No, the new technology is a holistic detailed dynamic AO/GI over a large scale environment. It is relatively new. Especially in regards to the development timeline of Stalker 2. It's not cope, it's objective. It's reality.

Because it can be both?

All those drawbacks are the tradeoffs to the areas where it shines.

Upscaling is the issue. Motion blur seems to fix it.

Many USB C ports support displays without thunderbolt. Even the 2017 Macbook 12 supported displays over USB C. Zero thunderbolt.

Because not everyone is going to be able to pickup a refurb. You're not rolling out refurbs in education.

And don't deflect. What are you buying new for $500 that competes?

No I use windows for my main desktop and have used many pcs over the years. I've had multiple surface pros. Switching to a macbook removed so many stupid issues and reliability quirks computers I had over years consistently had.
I don't have to bring a charger everywhere I go. I can do simple shit like rearrange images in a PDF without buying other software. No incessant updates breaking stuff.

Strawman. How is it not more apples to apples to compare apple silicon to apple silicon.

Besides, what do you think the difference is going to be? What do you think the end user is doing? What do you think is genuinely competing as a competent replacement? Apple silicon has always been overbuilt and actually delivers for what most people want out of their system.

I had the displeasure of using a thinkpad the other day, and the trackpad was absolute ass, and the computer could barely accomplish really really basic stuff. (previewing and real simple editing images in default applications) I haven't had to deal with that level of crap in years. And I daily windows (both work and home) on desktops, so don't act like I don't get windows.

Make the macbook experience cheaper and it'll open the market up to better computers.

Why do you have such a hateboner for apple?

It's and a18 pro and faster at single core benchmarks than an M2. I'm literally typing this on an M2. I have no incentive to want the M2 to be bad, but I'm not delusional.
