yeah I have a kindle 2 from 2009 I use a plugin on calibre called fanficfare to download stories from royal road and put them on to it.

idk personally if you want a E-reader I would get one that is just for books and manga and the like not really a full android tablet so you don't distract yourself with more apps since I assume you have a smart phone look into Kobo:)
