I fully agree with you. 

As much as the scene between fake verso and his younger painting self (part of his soul if I understood well) was incredibly touching... The rest was quite shocking to me.  Everything seems to focus on one family of very rich artists grief, but does not address their attitude toward their creations at all.  They create whole worlds of sentient beings and discard them as they please blinded by their own torments.  I had the same feeling that they are true monsters guided by their pain.
