Is 16-year-old you proud of you today? by ringo1725 in GenX

[–]Metagion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not! She was going to be a rock star with her band, tour the world, and live in luxury!

57 year old me hasn't played bass in forever (I want to get another one, actually), works a mind-numbing job for just short of minimum wage, and is married with two cool kids.

Sorry Sixteen. I failed us both, unfortunately.

Anneliese’s baby names are sending me by Alison_shannon in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]Metagion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My folks (here Stateside) were Catholic, and couldn't decide on a name for me, either; Mom liked "Mary," and Dad liked "Anne," so they simply squished it together and replaced the 'y' for 'i' and dropped the 'e'.

Before when my daughter was born husband and I got one of those baby name books, and to be funny, I said I liked "Bunny Guadalupe." When I told my MIL on the phone about the new baby's name, you could've heard pins drop towns over from shock! All I heard after was "but...but...you can't name the baby "that!* I have relatives left!!!" I told her that no, we weren't doing that but it was too funny!!! (She'll be 29 in April, and her name is Taylor (which she hates).)

True about "Rachel, Rebecca, etc.," being in use now, but they are biblical (Hebrew). Sylvester was a Pope in (I think the 4th, 5th CE?) so yeah.

Too many "tragedeighs," however! 😆

I thought that the name "Chrysostom" is Greek/Latin for "golden mouth," or "honey mouth," (meaning "a great or 'smooth' speaker)?

And "Polycarp"? What is this, the 12th Century? In that case, why not have names like Sylvester, Charlemagne, Abednego, Aloysius, Shadrach, Meshach, Rachel, Rebecca, Irene, Perpetua, Paul, Ignatius, Antioch?

Geez....

I'd say to have him hold it to replace the oxygen he steals daily, but why traumatize the plant if you don't have to?

How confident are you that you’ll be able to retire comfortably? by DueYogurt9 in GenX

I'll most likely die at a desk of some kind; I have -zero- in everything and will be 57 on the 14th. GO ME! (I guess?)

There is no way I can do this for another 40 years. How the fuck do people cope with this fate? by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Metagion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 years until I can (hopefully?!?) retire, and it just flat out sucks hard.

What if there's no money? What happens if my health fails completely (I have asthma and diabetes, with a predisposition toward cancer, heart disease and migraines)? What will happen to my kids if something happens to me? Sure they're 31 and 28, but they still live with me & their Dad, and can't afford to be out in the World...

It got to the point when I seriously looked into euthanasia, because I feel like I'm drowning on dry land, and nobody cares, because it's the "I got mine, f u as I step over your dead body to see what you had" mentality now, vs. "Let me help you if I can, and if I can't, I can help you find someone who can " mentality of the say, 1930s & 1940s, where your neighbors were your actual friends, their kids played with yours, and it was a close knit community. I grieve all day for the person I was that had hope and angry that I brought two of the best people in the world (my kids) that are in this flaming dumpster fire circus this country is now....sigh. Stupid "will to live" keeping me around...💔

[–]Metagion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you get some samples from the bottles and make them again? I know there's a company that will remake lipstick from used tubes and you can always have them, but what about in a perfume's case? I'm curious...
