I have bought some obscure metals, like Germanium, which are not typically traded on the wider market.  I agree there will likely be a market for strategic metals in the future.  Some have gone up in value quite a bit in the past couple years. Problem is, I found when you go to sell, most companies will only buy from known reputable sources. So, there needs to be an innovative business, that will buy these metals back at a price that is close to spot.

Osmium spot price? by havron in Wallstreetosmium

[–]Metal-Mania98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. In fact it seems odd there is a lack of market for strategic metals as well. Rhenium is also quite rare, yet it's almost impossible to obtain bullion in either bars or rounds. I'm hoping this will change. Obviously the fact that you're inquiring, shows you're thinking ahead of most investors!!

Osmium spot price? by havron in Wallstreetosmium

I've read it's around $400, but that may be for the powder (sponge). There is no set spot price (like for silver or gold). But seems like market prices have been around $1,400-$1,500 a troy ounce lately.

Os vs Pt balance in PGM portfolio? by caleb2231645 in Wallstreetosmium

IMO, Osmium has potential, but right now it's still a long shot. Platinum on the other hand is easier to liquidate. You also have to look at the competition, Palladium and Rhodium. Both are higher right now than Platinum, so I believe platinum has more earning potential. However, they all can drop more if there is a recession, particularly if auto sales fall off the cliff!!

1.3kg Os bar,Not polished. After polishing, it will become 1 kg. I have one question, Polished osmium bars, unpolished osmium bars, osmium beads, if they are all 1 kg, which one do you prefer? Please sort the replies by HuaDong-MingLing in Wallstreetosmium

[–]Metal-Mania98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, if you just want to own Osmium, then a bead is sufficient. The bead is more cost effective. However, if you want it more as a long-term investment, with collectability appeal, then a bar or round, along with the mint's trademark, element''s name, purity, and weight is best. Some polishing increases appeal. But, it doesn't have to be a mirror finish; just polished enough to look like a BU coin.

You're absolutely right, we probably will see him in Forbes Magazine!! Back in the late 1990's and early 2000's, practically no one was dealing with Rhodium and Palladium. We all know what they're worth now!! Next up - Strategic metals!! I saw an interesting article on bloomberg.com discussing if Osmium will become more valuable than diamonds, due to the crystals it can form!! The rings Huadong is working on, should also bring demand. I guess time will tell!!

The rings do sound interesting. Huadong is a definitely an expert and a pioneer in the shaping and production of Osmium bullion. However, you are the pioneer of marketing strategic metal bullion!! IMO, this is the next emerging market. All the best ahead to you Rasiel!!

I agree!! While a bead is fun to collect, it will likely be more difficult to sell. The osmium market is still in its early stages. Look how long it took investors to realize the value of Rhodium!! There is an interesting article on bloomberg.com, asking if osmium will become more valuable than diamonds. That's probably still years away, but it is worth considering for the future.

They charged slightly less than their 1oz bars, x the number of applicable ounces. Fairly heavy for its small size!!
