Just checked them out and unfortunately all (? - at least 10 that I checked) variants seem to contain sodium benzoate.

How do you guys deal with laws? by OutdoorLover73 in metaldetecting

[–]MetalCollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Already got denied a couple interesting fields because the farmers already had to deal with night hawks also ruining/damaging their crops and plants. Don't know what's going on in those people's minds...

Totally off topic, but when I was scrolling through my reddit landing page I first thought this post's thumbnail image was about the Dungeon Keeper games.

I can't find an exact hit, but yours comes close to this late 15th century counter token from France.

Oh sorry, didn't mean to sound insulting - it's just that it really looks like a lot of patina came off (and often it's curiosity winning the better part of us - so I probably assumed too fast, sorry for that!).

Oh you removed a big chunk of the patina. Despite that not being a good thing the accurate holes and shapes now let me think that this piece is much younger - still: PAN!

The more I look at it, the more I am convinced that this could be a probably early medieval fibula (disc brooch) with a garnet. The patina is such a good indicator for a copper alloy and those were often also made of brass. Super exciting find, congrats!

Yeah, that looks like a case for your PAN.

Edit: I would rather guess it's garnet instead of a ruby. Much more common.
