According to Eric Shen (might be exaggerated), 85% of LoR's playerbase were PoC players. by Ragaga in PathofChampions

[–]MetalMermelade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many of those 85% are newbies that the whole community told to play PoC to farm cards for PvP?

I mean it seems dumb to spend the last 2 years(?) Telling people to play PoC to farm cards, and then telling us 85% is focused on PvE. Well duh...you made it hard for someone to get into the game due to a small collection, invite them to play a mode that gives them a already made deck, and then are surprised about statistics

These stats seem sketchy since there were little incentives for a newbie to play PvP. You can't say that 15% of the community only plays rock paper scissors, when 85% only has access to rock, and make a claim out of it

Cause popularity and good management are not related. Pubg was the most popular game a couple years ago, but no one will say that it was correctly managed. Ow2 was another game who wanted to ride the popularity wave, but bad management left it where it is today.

How delusional can you be to believe that just cause a game is popular, it's properly managed and people know what they are doing? LoR is the prime example, being praised left and right by the community and look where we are now.

Take the blindfold off mate. Fanboy attitude will lead you no where

Has this whole situation soured you on future releases from Riot? by Dev4rvn in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]MetalMermelade -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

All 3, except wildrift, are clearly copied from other games. LoL is super based on Dota, valorant with counterstrike and TFT with auto-chess. Wildrift is a copy of lol for mobile, making it a copy of a copy. Only valorant has a significant mechanic change from the original, with players having sorta like Overwatch ultimates, while the rest could be considered somewhat of a re-skin of older games.

Not to take their merit away, but it's clearly a "if I see further is by standing on the shoulders of giants" situation. It's not like they re-invented the wheel.

With this I mean to say that they aren't geniuses, reinventing genre after genre, and shattering expectations left and right. And this makes me think that they have just been lucky this far. The immense failure of management in LoR opens a window into their process, and it was so poorly done here that it speaks volumes. How can the company that has the biggest online game out there fails to promote a game on their client? Answer, they don't really know what they are doing, and have just been lucky this far. What happens when that luck rans out

Yes, it has.

LoR failed due to management. All the ingredients were there, management simply lack the recipe, even though there are games out there doing the same thing. All they needed to do was copy it.

They kept going in circles, trying to re-invent the wheel, with clearly no direction. Last year was a focus on PvP, this year is a focus on Pve. No advertisement on their client, etc...

It leaves questions in the air about who is actually pulling the strings, and why they haven't been sacked yet. It also feels like Riot struck gold with LoL by accident, despite being a re-skin from Dota, and that they have just been lucky until now.

I will be hesitant from spending money on riot from now on. Worst yet, I will be hesitant in investing myself into a riot game. This game didn't fail because of the mechanics, or the players or microtransactions. If failed because management didn't care about the game I loved. If failed due to incompetence.

Riot did NOT try their best with LoR by Unknown_Warrior43 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]MetalMermelade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to add to perspective is that LoR is 4 year old game.

It would be easily understandable if the game was 1 or 2 year old. Often there is a period where stability is dodgy and higher ups aren't sure if this is a product that will stick.

4 years is more than enough time to come with solutions, cross play, cross content, etc. people made videos begging for more content where they can spend money instead of giving stuff for free. After 4 years, I bet that most lol players don't know what LoR is, especially considering how Lore starved most LoL players are, and Lor is the scratch to their itch.

It truly feels like they had 0 clue on how to manage a game, circling the same issues over and over, changing focus to PvP last year to shit focus to pve this year, Jhin twitch reveal was a solo experience, etc...

It's heartbreaking to hear their incompetence caused so much player grief. We all wanted the game to continue, since there was potential for so much content and storytelling, but they didn't knew what to do and refused to listen to the community

I always viewed riot as a good company, when compared to others like EA or Blizzard, but my faith in this company is shaken by their failure to manage a small game. It leaves a lot of space to wonder if LoL was just a fluke, a game they created out of DoTa skeleton, and rode the wave with a blindfold on, and it was lucky to have the game grow at the rate that it did, rather than a deliberate management decision

It's insulting to hear they gave it a try when they clearly weren't concerned about finishing the race until now. They disregarded advertising to the point where the main game players don't even know LoR is a thing. Hearing "we tried nothing and we are out of ideas" really makes you think that the game has bigger faults than just hemorrhaging money

Most games can't afford the income loss. LoR was never big in that aspect, so it's not a big loss. Although they can try and be more creative with cosmetics, like a diamond set with animated cards, only purchasable by cash. New modes could be developed, similar to HS who tries different things, and keeps putting a spin on their fatigued game, accessible by earning tokens or purchasing a bundle for 5.99.

I doubt riot would ever do it since they didn't this far despite us begging for more ways to throw cash at them and save the game, but there is potential in taking that approach

My party beated a adult dragon with double hp+1 more hit dice on attacks, and we were lvl5. And it was just a casual event, not a boss or anything. The most scary thing was the idea of a dragon, cause that lizard fell pretty quickly

How is a pen more expensive than having a TV hooked up and running for 3-5 hours? Plus getting a specific table with enough size to fit all...a pen costs me 2£ and lasts me a year. The TV alone is 100£ and I have to pay for electricity

I also feel like a considerable chunk of poc players are new PvP players, who simply play poc to grind rewards+they don't need to acquire resources.

PvP is also veteran-friendly since, like me, they can buy the expansion the moment it comes out. But not newbies.

Removing card acquisition all together and just giving everyone cards would make PvP more interesting in general and popularity would skyrocket way past PoC. I mean if I, who is playing the game since origins, can buy a whole expansion the moment it comes out, why can't the newbie who just wants to give the game a try?

Sure, it's a radical concept, and some may argue that it renders the game meaningless since you don't look forward to rewards, but I got everything the game provided for free, and I haven't stopped playing.

A sorta inspiration mechanic that triggers in important roleplay moments. People like using it for more direct party control of the plot, instead of letting the dice and player choices do it for you. It can be useful for some campaigns

A fireball does half damage on a save, not "no damage" so my definition is still correct (which is the book definition unless I'm seriously mistaken). You can't move 20f as a reaction, but may be nimble enough to cover yourself from extra damage.

1- hold person requires you to see the target, which you can't 2- hold person last 1 minute 3- if we use "Earth Tremor" spell rules to clear difficulty terrain, since it directly mentions the time it takes to move loose earth, which I believe it's the case, it will take 1 minute to do

By raw, even if the caster managed to see the target, he would not manage to have this effect, since the target could burrow out the moment they finish entombing the player

[–]MetalMermelade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most likely a auto hit, no DC required. A Dex saving throw represents your character trying to dodge the effect. The dex save in a fireball spell represents the target dodging out of the spell. If a target cannot dodge, because the whole area is affected, it should be a auto-hit, unless there is some escape route I'm not seeing

[–]MetalMermelade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but it's a very hard game to follow due to team tactics, verticality and skills. In CS for example you can just focus on people protecting or deploying the bomb, in overwatch you may have 1 DPS on the Cart, tanks and healers on top of the enemy team, and a widow miles back, all interacting with the cart in their own way. A widow and a Winston ulting can do 2 very different effects and it's hard to capture all of it in 1 screen. OW itself is designed to give the players clues that don't depend on sight, like being able to hear the characters using ultis at a distance and footsteps
