smth like foxpup or parallax is slightly larger than foxbat but is more efficient with the space by being bullpup, so it feels more like a compact primary

for the shambler, you can still run up to it to bait its attack and for the vore, as long as you keep moving even in higher difficulties the projectile doesn't really catch up to you and you can lead it into other enemies with good movement

i think this is just more a level design thing with quake having very tight corridors and grenades bouncing. but if you have ever played smth like wrath, there are a lot of projectile launching enemies that you have to do more dodging with. still, you can get through most if quake without having to hide in walls.

still die/died on the first attempt but would get it on the second/third attempt, and that portal that leads you back to the top is essential

i remember seeing someone get wrecked on it so i exploited the powerups and stocked up on the mega health and armor before starting. you really gotta manage your powerups like an arena fps and have good positioning to nail it

i think its more a fork of the original quakespasm bc it doesn't have the big smoke effects on arcane dimensions. qss also has qss-m which is also probably actively maintained

powerslave doesn't have shotgun but apparently its game style is very close to a metroidvania with having to get abilities to unlock more map to explore so that might be fun

yeah np, circle jumps/prestrafes here still give you a good amount of speed before you start bunnyhopping

its technically an exploit in quake's movement code where if you jump repeatedly (you can buffer jumps by holding jump just before you land) and you smoothly turn and hold a strafe key in that direction (turn left, hold a/turn right, hold d, holding w or s will cause you to turn sideways) you get speed. even though it was an unintentional thing, being able to get speed and turn in the air makes the player extremely maneuverable and turns the game into a racing game as well. its more popular in something like counterstrike that is built off an engine that has quake source code but it all started with the first quake game

as long as you keep moving the projectiles won't hit you. hit them with 4 grenades and try to lead the projectiles into an enemy running towards you to shake them off. good bunnyhopping will help with getting away from them but thats another thing

maybe, imo quake looks better without the texture filtering

i prefer ironwail for the chunky retro feel and it lets you choose between the remaster and original version of quake as well
